1991 FRST Project....Track Orientated!!!
Right then all, firstly i will introduce myself. MY names kev and im from nottingham. Im relatively new to the ford scene, altho i did have an Escort Rs Turbo for a brief period until i got fed up of its problems
However, i have always fancied owning a FRST, albeit not with an intention of doing what im going to do with the car. Now the car which shall be subject to my 'touch' is a well known White 1991 Fiesta RS Turbo which i believe brammers has had the pleasure of owning
Now the car has already been subject to some extensive restoration and i must say that the standard of restoration is nothing short of perfect My plan is to maintain this level so preserve the quality of the car and its previous work. Now i know some people will slate me for what i plan to do with the car, but its each to their own i say, and in all honesty its my car and i'll do what i want with it (not meeaning to offend at this point if i have).
The route im going with the car is a track orientated one, but everything will be to a 'show stopping class' standard so it can be shown at shows, and god willing maybe win a trophy or two
This is the car in the condition/level at this precise moment, and i will be collecting the car on sunday. Almost immediately i will be doing a few things, but i will list these as updates rather than spoil the build process
Lastly, i hope some of you wont mind when i call upon your opinions and knowledge to help me through my build, as 90% of the build is going to be a self project and i'll need pointing in the right direction from time to time
Cheers all and hope you enjoy this thread

Well im not sure what to say really. There is a saying that is 'Start as you mean to go on....' well i hope in this instance it isnt the case Picked up the car this morning and it really is a minter, very honest, straight car and it is what it is
However, 30 minutes into the drive home from southampton back to nottingham, i decided to pull into a petrol station and drop in a full tank of shells finest, some v-power. So i pull up to the pump, get out the car for a quick chat to my mate whilst the car idles and cools down. All is fine and the car has driven faultlessly up until this point. After chattin for about 2 minutes decided to turn the car off and put some juice in, only to notice smoke bellowing out of the bonnet.......oh shit!!
Turn the car off straight away and pop the bonnet quick time to see what the hell is happening. As i lift the bonnet, im welcomed by a nice squirting radiator pissing coolant out all over the place. As you can imagine, im not best pleased in the slightest!! The cause is the fact that the actuator on the T3 conversion has been catching the rad and basicly worn a small hole in it. Luckily only an easy repair and i caught the leak almost instantly so no other damage likely.
How do you space the rad forward on these to clear the actuator as it clearly hasnt been done on the car.
cheers all (awaiting recovery at sutton scotney services)

stembo mate, how is this done? Had a good look, so have a fair idea, but any pointers would be much appreciated. Gives me the excuse to upgrade to an alloy one now

Cheers rob mate, funny you should say about being too good to be tracked, when i got it home after it breaking down had a good clean of her and im begining to have second thoughts. As some have said, it is almost too good to be tracked and the bag of godies i got with the car, its swinging me to re-think........hmmmm choices to be made......

Had a feeling you would think twice The car as it is looks capable of winning a trophy.
Mine also a T3 conversion with a print out of 200 bhp. its laggy but does go turbo cuts in, its not shy. It is cramped I have to admit, but I don't want to start cutting bumpers. Keeping the standard look
Just going to start a underside resto soon and tidy the engine bay.

think im going to clay bar it this afternoon mate. Will have a play with the engine etc, take it towards 200bhp mark but not go wild, then just colour co-ord the engine bay etc. See how it goes

Some Updates and Pics
right then, had a busy few days since central day. Had the old wallet out and have been investing in some bits and pieces Right then where to start.....
Shopping list:
Stage 3 Big valve head with newman cam, kent pulley and solid lifters..Ł301.27
This wont be being bolted on just yet, im saving it for the trip to Karl at NMS to go along with a couple of other bits and bobs
Airtek Front Mount Intercooler.....Ł245
ACT's are showing a good drop, even on 9psi. Touch more laggy, but seems to pull a touch stronger towards the top end
Crank Position sensor (genuine ford) Ł47.83
Changed this as the car seems to run poorly off boost. Hasnt made a difference unfortunately so think its going to have to be put on a diagnostic machine to try and locate the source of the problem
Brand New RS Turbo Steering Wheel ŁFREE
Came with car when i bought it along with a brand new Genuine RS Turbo Gearknob
Also have a few other bits on order. Some Vibratechniks gearbox mounts courtesy of Rapid Ford. Some GAZ Coilovers, should be here within the next week. Some 16" Speedline Course when i get around to collecting them lol. Gonna be painted white
Thats all for this week, hopefully be able to get the mounts, coilovers fitted next weekend, so keep an eye out for an update

There's a company local to me called car doctor. Very highly reccomended. He oesnt like to get involved with messed about cars, but mines running standard boost with no chips etc so happy to take a look, spin it up on the rollers and and see what the cars doing.
Im confident he can source the problem and sort

Temps are fine mate. When its on boost in 2.3.4.5 its runs absolutely spot on mate. But in first, when it comes onto boost it jolts violently and wont boost. Also when its off boost, it feels really flat with no power mate. Mises ever so slightly off boost, but never whilst on boost mate
