Default My Mk1 Escort With H.P.E N/A Cosworth

heres some pics of my mk1 escort that i ve owned for nearly 4 years.

it had a 1660,1300gt pistons,bcf3 cam and mild head work, a nice useable fast road Harris x-flow in it when i brought it

Then i put some 7x13 RS four spokes with 175/50/13's on it

after having the car for a year i decided to goto town on it and got Ron Harris to build me this

its a nice fast road N/A cossie spec is:
cosworth crank
cosworth rods
accralite forged pistons
ported head - 27mm with valve guides cut down
BP300 cams
solid lifters
standard valve sizes
3 angled valve seats
double valve springs
vernier pullys
twin 48 webers
bosch dizzy

i also up rated pretty much everything else on the car, tran-x straight cut box, quaife ATB LSD with atlas size bearings and half shafts, bias hyralic pedel box, wilwood 4 pot brakes and 265mm disc, group 4 alloy rad, high torque starter motor

Heres some pics of it in the car

It made 224bhp which is more than good enough for what i use the car for and had a good summer with the car,a few teething problems with the carbs as you do but the engine was strong and pulled like a train.

The dizzy got stuck on full advance in november and blew the head gasket, no ones fault just one of those things, it made me think about updating to Throttle bodies and full management so i decided to go for it, while the engine was out had the engine bay spruced up,

and heres some pics of the engine back in and a test fit of the throttle bodies (ignor the horrible green rocker cover it aint staying!)

and thats as far as i ve got so far! hoping to get the car done for the summer but we ll see how the overtime at work goes

Excellent, really like the old skool fords.....especially with NA for a change.

Speedflow do some nice fuel fittings in black(stealth range), would go well with the black/silver TB's.

the engine fits straight in, just use rs2000 engine mounts, there are a few problems with the manifolds running too close to the brake master cylinder and throttle and clutch cables but a bias pedel box with a grp4 throttle pedel sorts these problems out

the cost umm lets just say if you do it properly and uprate the rest of the car (gearbox, axle, pedel box, cooling system, fueling) it ll cost some where between lots and loads

decent fresh built engine Ł3-4k complet with flywheel, clutch, cover plate, sump, dizzy, leads
plus either Ł800 for carbs or Ł2500 for management and T/B's
gearbox Ł1300
pedel box Ł250
manifold Ł400 plus wat ever system after that
radiator Ł300
LSD Ł450
halfshafts Ł300
alloy bell housing Ł140
starter motor Ł150
decent brakes Ł450 right upto Ł1200 depending on what you want
and various other bits n bobs needed

the noise and look of a N/A cossie in a mk1 escort PRICELESS

Stunning !

Just had a mate over who has a nigh on identical althougn not as clean Mk1 with a xflow in it, trying to convince him to see the light and junk the xflow and fit a xe with the tb's he has kicking about due to power and cheap costs. He's not a bit interested his loss.

Has the engine spec of the YB changed at all since you fitted the tb's ? which ones are they out of interest ?
