Default 1989 Escort GL Estate-Standard rebuild

Hey guys, hope your all well. This aint a modifying thread, so if standard and history dont float your boat, this thread aint for you!!

Bit of a difference to my normal projects this one. Always wanted a mint Luxury MK4, so last October i set out looking for something REALLY good. Came across this 1989 Escort Estate on ebay and just had to buy it! Basically it was bought new by a gent in his 60's called George Davey. He must of Walked into Ford and asked for the top of the range Estate as thats what this is. A 1.6 GL 4 door Estate. Comes with Chrome trim, Tilt /Slide Sunroof, Electric and Heated Mirrors, Electric Windows etc Only options he didnt request were ABS and a heated screen.

Anyway, car was garaged all its life and kept ridiculously clean, plus serviced religiously. Anyway, fast forward to 2008 and the poor old guy got diagnosed with Cancer At this point he decided to give up driving so asked a good freind to sell the car on for him. By this time he had accidently scraped the paint on a rear arch andbacked into his work bench causing a slight dent in the tailgate. This is where i came in, bought the car for £450 with all its history, original books etc and the car had covered 64k.

The car doesnt deserve to be messed with, its too original for that and in a sad sort of way, i wanna do the old boy proud! Besides, you just dont see good condition estates anymore, and certainly not a 1.6 GL!

So i plan to sympathetically clean the old girl up. Nothing wow, just thought someone of you might be interested in the original stuff

So, my initial plans are....

Repairs.....

Rear arches-only bits of rust on the whole car. Will replace the lips and make look original, ie spot weld dimples.
Rear passenger door-2 car park dings which ill get the dent man onto.
Try and track down a mint tailgate due to the dent.
Bumpers are scuffed on corners, worried about trying to find mint ones.....
Full service with genuine ford stuff
Replace Aerial Lead, no radio reception at the moment and the lead goes the whole length of the car!
Full valet and detailing of engine bay

Then theres the "modifications". Want to get as many optional extras on it so that means...

Heated screen
Ford accesory Alloys-same as on the late cabriolets and Orion 1600E
Rear mudflaps
Headlight protectors

Will update this thread as and when-its clean up day tommorrow so should have some pics of it all gleaming. Let me know your thoughts plus if you have any standard Escort Estate pics, then please do feel free to post them

cheers guys
Danny
