Escort Bonus RS Conversion | Time For An Update 22/06/15

looking good mate but for 2mins extra work i would have masked the clips or removed them, same goes for the belt cover and the brake clyinder and all the other little engine bits as they will just be covered in overspray now!
what about the rest of the car did you cover that as well?!
fairplay for doing it though.

Hey all havent really had a chance to upload pics for an update but got some good news and the engine conversion is complete!
Seeing as I had spent sucha long time sourcing parts etc I decided that I might aswell do it proply..
Heres the engine block stripped down, with the crank reground and lightened.
I brought standard piston rings but found out after I tried them that the block and pistons have been overbored by 0.5mm so I had to buy another set of piston rings which were the right size!!
Heres the botom end built up!
Seeing as things were going good i got the car ready for the engine to get put in!
Darryl came down too and helped put the engine in along with the fuel system
Fuel pump
Braided fuel lines
Big thanks to LinconDanny off here for hooking me up with the fuel system.. was a 300mile round trip but was worth it!
Because I didnt have an engine crane this time we hadta get the car high enough to roll the engine in from under the car
Heres the old engine gettin abused for its nuts and bolts
Engine going in!
Ecus!
Engine In!!
I love this angle of the turbo
Exhaust and downpipe
I had a lot of issues with trying to get the car finished the main one was the fact that i was working full time and didnt ever have a day off so I sent my car off to Jano @ Oddkidd and he got my car up and running..
Took him a week to get all the issues sorted out took me almost 3 months to admit that I wasnt gonna get it finished lol
Thanks Jano your a top guy it was all worth the wait!!
Heres a picture of the engine bay finished its pretty dirty in this picture but OMG now i know what the fuss about is with turbos!!!!
Will get some more pictures of the finished thing ..
Thanks for reading and Id appricate any comments you have !

thank you mate, couldnt have done it by making the mistakes i did to then learn from it and having progressed to what it is now!
you've been there from the very start pal. big thank you to all the people that guided, taught and helped me.. not forgetting all of the missions and the amount of times ive broken down it was all worth it in the end!
i dont think im going to ever sell it. we've been to hell and back one too many times for me to just let my baby go!! going to upgrade the suspension and polybush the entire car next!!
thanks for all the comments and all the people who have been subscribed to my thread.. the amount of feedback i have gotten has kept me determined to keep on going with this project and has made me understand true passion when working on a car

Just spent the last hour reading this, what a fantastic thread.
You are an inspiration mate, big respect.
Gives me the confidence to try repainting my bumpers!
Use my mk4 cabbie as a daily, too low, too bumpy but hell always puts a smile on my face!

Hi all, its been a few months and thought i'd give you an update on whats been going on. Its been 3 whole years since I brought my car and I must admit its come a long way.
In the winter I tried starting my car in the cold, and the water pump went bang! its been offroad for a while tbh i havent made the effort to get my car back on road. its just so much headache!! the joys of owning a rs turbo now i know how alot of guys feel like who i see on this forum saying how their car has been off road for years!!! its a pisstake
since then its been sitting in my garage just havent got around to fixing it, but been on this forum quite a lot in the last few days just reading up stuff as ive been thinking about more power!! have been seriously considering going all out efi ..
but before that seeing as its summer i thought i might aswell bufty up my engine bay. going to be painting the inlet, rocker, and a few other bits and pieces to make it look better..
its currently sitting in my garage like this
got a few ideas and have already been doing research to see what hasnt been done. was thinking chrome but its so common now days its just not unique anymore so thats out the window.
was thinking black on black. anyone done it before? got any pics for me??
going to make it look the part and enjoy it for a while before i start buying parts for efi.
have also considering selling my car but i just cant bring myself to do it!
will get some more updates soon

finally go on with it and got round to painting my rocker cover today to start the new theme of my engine bay.
stripped down the old paint using a wire brush drill bit.. and used 180 grit wet and dry paper to prep the hard to reach bits
used etch primer for a base coat
used the touch up gun as it covers a smaller surface area look how small it is loool!
then came base coat
then came the laquer
its not gloss black like my car the paint is called blue black. the pictures dont do it justice because I took them with my phone! will get some proper pics of how it has come out with my camera next week
I have prepped the inlet, charge pipe and other bits and pieces.. just waiting for paint to get delivered so i can make a start on it!
cant wait the bufty session is getting there slowly but surely! its going to be different.. not your typical escort engine bay!
more updates soon!

its been a while but ive been busy!
got a few things painted up and looks pretty good.. will let the pics do the talking!
got the inlet off
began stripping it
took the injectors apart aswell
inlet was a bit funny to paint because of the shape its not a flat surface so had to improvise!
same thing with other bits and pieces
done a layer of etch primer
forgot to take a pic of the inlet primed but it came out pretty nice!
heres a few of the inlet painted. decided to go with gloss black in the end. ebay bastards been messing me around.. originally wanted to go for a matt black look but had a spare bit of paint so just decided to go ahead with gloss black instead!
then we had to sand down the paint because the finish was quite bumpy.. wanted it smoother
this happened with the charge piper aswell
the injectors and thermostat housing came out really nice tho, didnt need to paint that again.. mainly because how much of a mission it because of the shape of the injectors
the charge pipe and inlet was dry today. left it over night to dry.. came out soooooooo smooth and shiny ahh i love it!!
inlet piccy
mocked up for test fitting!
had a trial fit of how it looks in the engine bay too.. gotta say.. it looks great!
now I'm just waiting for cylinder head back from my mate, hes going to get it skimmed etc for me. more updates soon!
once I get my new cylinder head its all going together

Seriously Newbie
Nice one mate... Lots of respect for spraying the car yourself!!!
Got me a mk4 Xr3i as a first car, have it for almost 3 years and 've done a lot, but didnt sprayed it myself...
You gotta keep this one mate! Bet you are putting a lot of love in it..

Redumbdancy
Having read through the entire thread, it really reminds me of my first car (a 1.1 Mk3 Fiesta). I went to town on it, full RST interior, bodykit (painted by myself), springs & shocks, exhaust etc. I came to the point of fitting an RST engine, but decided to sink my money into a different car altogether. I've never looked back, but sometimes I do miss having a car to tinker with.
Great work so far. I know I loved learning about mechanics and paintwork on mine. Maybe some day I'll do it again.

Have you ever used coolant? It looks like your second engine's core plug came out in a rusted mess. Your water pump failed in the winter, frozen? Head off pics, rusty water ways. Engine bay shot above, can't see anything in header...
Just saying mate, you put a lot of effort in. My advice is don't ever overlook the simple things. Get a nice coolant mix in there on the next one and give your engines 6 monly oil changes.
Good luck.

Hey guys,
So its been almost been 3 years since I’ve updated this resto thread. I’ve still got my escort and have been prepping to go efi with it. A quick update of how she has been looking..
Heres one of the engine bay..
So whilst my car was on road I had a lot of electrical issues with it, parked it up and for almost a year haven’t driven it.
I’ve decided to go for a new management .. EFI.. Finally! I should have originally done it but the thing is I have learned a hell of a lot from MFI and diagnosing problems etc..
Anyway I picked up a complete OFAB conversion kit, and before I start on the actual conversion I decided to strip apart the inlet, charge pipe and give it a little paint..
Finally got in in primer..
Used a secret colour combination for this paint, as I’ve already gone for the gloss black on the mfi inlet I thought id switch it up a little bit..
Base coat going on..
Here is the finished thing..
To the eye it looks gloss black, but when paint hits it you can see a slight blue to the paint.
This finish is a mix of paint – did not expect to get the results that I did but blown away by the paint finish. To the naked eye the inlet looks black but under the light you can see a slight blue to it. Looks crazy!
I’ll be updating this resto in the next few weeks so keep an eye peeled for the conversion I will be doing to ofab efi as I will be documenting it properly
