Default Fiesta RST Renovation "The fun begins"

Well here we go ..... the long awaited rebuild of my ( and my dads ) Fiesta has begun . I will try and keep this thread up to date and post pics where possible .

Firstly a bit off history , of me and the car , it was bought brand new from Lakeland Ford in Kendal , and registered on Aug 01 1991 , the new owner being my Dad , and he was no spring chicken , I was 25 at this time and was a workshop controller at another local ford dealership but as we were not RS dealers and I had worked at Lakeland previously went back there to get a deal , I still have the original sales invoice from them in my paperwork .

It was kept almost standard apart from a slight adjustment to the wastegate , K & N panel filter and a driveability chip and a power check on rollers and it gave a healthy 152 BHP so we were satisfied with that .

Over the years in served my dad well , apart from the usual attempted theft that damaged both doors , these being reskinned , and a rear end shunt that did little damage apart from a bumper , which we kept cos it did not seem at all damaged , and one further little parking bump that kinda brought on the fuel filler corrosion as it kinked the panel and broke the seal and of course let the water in to the panels .

In 2003 my last remaining grand parent died and it was at the funeral that my dad realised that parking the RS with no power steering was getting difficult , and as he was due for a new car he decided to make the rs the everyday runabout !!!!

This carried on until end of July 2006 when I came to a deal with my dad that meant that it was passed down to me , in some areas it was still very good , but around the petrol filler was getting worse , I ran it for a year until I decided that what it really needed was to be taken off the road and rebuilt . So on August 1st 2007 it became a full time resident of the garage , but due to other pressures it was never started , several things were bought for it , new 1/4 panel , bonnet , os door and a multitude of other bits , including an LSD and another std box to put it into .

On Dec 31st last year I was made redundant from a main ford dealership in Birmingham , so after doing the things around the house ... well most of them ... I started to give the RS the attention she deserves , so quick strip so I can get to the bottom of the rear quarter , wondering how bad it was going to be underneath and how many more panels will I need .

I have been very slow at cutting the panel off , just so I can be careful and not cause more problems , I aint a body man ... me a grease monkey lol so after removing the arch extension and snapping all the studs realised that this was going to be a slow process .

It is now stripped off and it is not that bad underneath the panel , will post some pics that I have got as an update later .

I am using this as a small project to start with then will post another thread asking peoples thoughts on my next one soon , giving people a clue , I have some cosworth 4 X 4 bits hanging around and a thought that I have some spare panels for fiesta MK3's close at hand , I know it has been done before ...... but not by me
