Well, it got slated and I was immediately labelled a "barry boy"

The project has carried on, obviously (I told you it wasnt finished )

Firstly Leda Fully Adjustable Coilovers were fitted
Followed by a Milltek 4-2-1 stainless with Decat and Singlebox Piper Catback

Then on the way home from Mansfield, the 1.25 went with massive bottom end failure, resulting in a snapped conrod and a hole in the block. I knew it was about to let go and had prepared to begin an engine swap in the next two days of the breakdown.

Its a cheap car built for fun! Why not??? (see below for washers Q)

He's raising the engine for more ground clearance as the exhaust manifold catches and scrapes, which allows him to go lower. He's using washers with high tensile bolts, Im sure he could get some proper spacers made when he's happy with the ground clearance! Pretty good idea if you ask me!

Why not just sort the exhaust out so it doesn't scrape, or is the car that low? If so, what effect has a drop of that magnitude had on the geometry, and therefore the handling?
And what effect has raising the engine had on the cars centre of gravity?

The actual 4-2-1 Manifold Sits low, to sort it "properly" It would need to be cut, shortened, and rewelded, This will make things complicated in regards to space, and....If I was as worried as you, Mess up the "flow" from the exhaust Manifold. The main factor is cost, rasing the engine just 1/2 an inch, has helped alot with clearance issues, and best yet, it cost me absolutely nothing!!

The geometry, well, my bottom arms and bushes wont last a second, tyre wear will be uneven. I intend to modify Some bottom arms to arms and make them adjustable so my camber can be adjusted to suit.

As for The centre of gravity...Its awfffullll, I attatched the sensors to the G meter and found that handling effiency is decreased by 36.2% which sounds minimal but has had a severe effect on handling characteristics....

....*psst* Its a mk4 fiesta, its cheap, its fun and most importantly, I can do I like to it!

So to sort one problem, you create another? Wab Its going to be easier to sort and exhaust than try and fab bottom arms etc.

I used to have a mk4 1.25 it was just as low and it actually handled brilliantly.

To be honest you need to stop messing around with spacers and just sort the manifold out. Which if its decent should have good clearance in the first place.

Can you honestly say raising an engine in a Fiesta 1/2 an inch...is going to have a noticable effect on the handling let alone a major one?

Its not difficult to fabricate adjustable bottom arms, I know whats needed. If I fail, I can purchase Area six bottom arms. Simples *squeek*

And even if it was slightly lowered it would upset the geometry, Its not much different from Adjustable TCA's on your ageing Sierra's

Im touchy? I asked some questions about it, mainly because I'd not heard of anyone raising an engine for the reasons you stated (I wasn't the only one was I?), and you couldnt jump on me fast enough

I'm Prejudicial? You are too then after inferring I am some kind of geek, working for the space program etc etc Just because I asked a technical question

I have no idea what raising the engine will do as I've not done it, though its safe to assume raising the centre of gravity can have a detrimental effect is it not? Maybe half an inch wont make it roll at the first hint of lateral loading, but I never said it would

And I'm not giving you stick, let alone because your not doing it your own way, I was asking why you are doing it that way, as it seems a little extreme to me. Fair play for doing it your own way though, hence the "you crack on " at the end of my previous post.

I had a brainwave this morning

I dont know if you're bothered about the bumper covering the corners of the lights, but could you chop the top off a mk4 bumper and graft it onto the top of the ZS one? Just a thought

That is a good Idea, and would mean I wouldnt have to fix the crack on the OSF of the bumper aswell

I may at some point do that, however I may put MK5 bump strips on the side of my mk4....we will wait and see

Well, alot of works gone in

After an All nighter It made it to RSTuning in Leeds for a go on the rollers

It made a very respectable 105.4bhp which for the mods done and management is good IMO

Still much work to go till FITP though

Well, its been taken off the road again for further work, its far from fitp ready since the rolling road meet.

Some more cosmetic touches both inside and outside, adjusting and cleaning The Leda coilovers, fitted polybushes to the rear beam, getting the lights all properly working

lil update, few teething problems in the wiring, e.g headlights from off a police car it seems (flashing headlights) and fuel gauage wired wrong way round, so its coming to B-Tech Racing HQ for a wiring session

headlights sorted, rear arch's cut back on inside to stop wheels rubbing on arch, alternator fixed, re-secured the O/S skirt, re painted front bumper and more stickers

grinding about a 15mm lip on the inside edge to give clearance for the wheels


This is the piece of wiring that was stoping the headlights from working, the whole wiring loom came from a zs with an aftermarket alarm on it, so we traced to problem back to this, chopped it out an rejoined the original wiring loom



the nut on the alternator snapped off, so i welded some tread on and and made a new one

Body kit bolts straight on, We had a few issues with this one though as it was damaged so a little modding here and there was needed!

He will be sticking with the 1.6 Zetec for now! Although things may change in the future, but i very much doubt it will ever have a FRP engine!

Theres still a few things that need sorting and tidying before FiTP but it will be there on the ZSOC stand, so keep your eyes peeled for it!
