My rotten s2..... Finished (ish) :D

If you are having to do the same, brace yourself! and keep that wallet fully stocked up!
I've really enjoyed it all though. The previous owner had given up and was thinking about the scrap yard, so it's nice to know that I have saved this RS from its death.

My Rotten s2, just a small update.
Well after deciding to keep my escort I thought it was about time to get it sorted, especially after seeing some great examples at Central.
So small update today, went to see how my seats were getting on at the trimmer.
Excuse the crappy phone pics. (should be able to get a better one tomorrow when I pick the drivers seat up)
Had alot of trouble finding matching fabric, had to settle for a soft faux suede in the end. the colour match is not 100%, however, The seats will look way better then they did before. Plus all new foam in them so nice a solid!
I would have liked to get them completely re-trimmed so the colour match wouldnt be an issue at all. However, its a pretty pricey venture!

My rotten s2.. engine update.
Been a while since any updates. Quite a bit going on.
After a discovering my pistons had cracked ring lands it was time for a bit of an engine rebuild as det seemed to be an issue when trying to get it to run with a bit more ooomph!
After exhausting all outlets of what could be causing the det and not knowing the history of the block or head I decided to go for the skimmed piston route. Got myself a set of new Mahle pistons, got them skimmed and treated my engine to a much needed new camshaft.
I finished my driving like a grandma running in period on wednesday and got the car set up on the thursday. I'm very happy with the results
(sorry about the picture quality)
Previous to the new pistons cam etc is in the red. (no idea why its so wobbly?!)
I think the actuator might be a bit on the weak side as the boost trails off a bit. I think it peaked around 16 and drops to 13-14ish.
My tuner said it still had more in it, but I was never on a number hunt. Having driven the car for two days now I think it is a nice amount of power, not to much torque steer and I know it may last a bit longer with reasonable power (touch wood)
Next job, get it painted! Picking up new front arches next week, and have new bonnet vents, sunroof and other bits and bobs already waiting. Just going to organise a weekend with my friend the welder and get it all prep'd up ready to trailer to the paintshop.

My rotten s2.. update 18/8/12
Been a long time since I have updated this thread.
Got my new sunroof in and quite a few other bits tidied up. Had a few problems with injectors and cold start. All sorted and the car has been running great! However, it's time for my IB5 and hydraulic clutch conversion.
Sorted some mondeo ST front brakes:
Also got fed up of my old sub box taking up the whole boot so made a smaller one and made a raised floor with the amp and wires underneath then cut a whole out to hold the sub box. (not brilliant I know but im not very good at woodwork )
So today I was hoping to put up some pictures of said hydraulic clutch conversion which I made a start on today.
Pulled the carpet up to get it out the way of the bulkhead, saw what looked like a little bit of surface rust, so gave it a poke and found a little hole which I patched up:
Then looked at the drivers side footwell and gave the little bit of surface rust there a poke......
Before I could even start the welder ran out of gas. So it looks like further delays.

Cheers guys. Dealt with the rusty old metal, got the floor and sill plated up. Just need to deal with the bit up the wheel arch. Felt really disheartened when I found it but i'd like to keep this RS going! (even though it's about 20% steel plates now)
ahh well as long as its solid its all under the carpet anyways

Been out looking for more bits of rust today. Its not looking good.
I had a drink driver try and share a parking space with me a 2 years back, only put the tiniest of dents in my rear wheel arch, however looking on the inside of the rear wing today it looks like it has messed up my original repair and rotted through.
Think i'm going to have to roll the car over again and tackle it from the underneath.

Yeah, I have wanted to get it painted for the last two years, but the money has always ended up else where as the car gets used all year round. Luckily my work is on the same street as me so its no big deal with the car not moving.
New bottle of gas coming on Friday so the holes will be plated up this weekend and the car will likely be on its side again on Monday. Going to give the underneath a good going over and some more waxoil/underseal. Then while its off the road I think I'll start prepping it for paint. I'll keep the pictrures coming next week.

Small update today. Got most of the holes patched up, sealed and painted. Pics of them soon.
This morning decided to tackle the bumper brackets as there were pretty much gone
Had all the strength of a shredded wheat!
Got one side fixed up. (please excuse the slap dash red in the wheel arch, just wanted to get some paint on it as ford forgot too)
Used some heat putty on the wing but it still wasn't quite enough, but it'll be going for paint once all these little jobs are finished!
(plus compare the wheel arch to the wing and you can really see how bad the paint has gone)

Right little update.
The IB5 is finished and back in the car so I made a start on the puma linkage today.
After offering it up and not liking the shifter sitting further forward than the std one I set about fixing it.
Made up a galvanized plate for the underneath with a hole cut from lining up the original linkage. ( the hole was eventually round, just not in the pic. )
Then got myself a piece of light metal bar and extended the length of the rods. (After I had done all the measurements and realised it was only being lengthened by 18mm I realised how anal I was being )
After getting all the linkage connected and giving it a few throws I honestly can't wait to drive it. The difference is incredible. Looking like it might be the best mod I've done.

Yeah just had to settle for a slightly taller final drive. It was either that or start modding the LSD which I couldn't be bothered to do lol
Just need to put a larger clutch master in, and put the front bumper back on and i'll be in business!

Well its been a while since I've updated this as I've just been enjoying the car.
However, now all the mechanical niggles are dealt with and it went through its last MOT with only one advisory on a head light I thought it was time to get it into the paint shop!
So stripped the car down and had a look what was going on under the body kit. Most of the repairs we did when I first got the car were still in pretty good shape, however I thought as its going to be painted I would get fresh metal on it instead of patches.
First off did the drivers side sil
Ended up drilling a hole in the bottom for the drain pipe so it can drain onto the floor as opposed to fords design of inside the sil.
Then tackled the N/S rear arch (inner and outer)....
..and the sil which only needed to be patch up across the bottom
N/S side finished
Getting the bodyshop to put a new fron wing on that side as its clearly been replaced before by the awful panel gap and it wasn't painted inside so its gone a bit rotten. Also going to sort out the door which had been bent at the bottom as you can see from the shadow on the sil.
O/S rear arch got tackled today.
This started as a small blister just behind the filler neck screw!!
So started to make up a bit to put in its place.
Then whilst cutting out the old filler cap area the compressor died. So thats all I managed to do this weekend.

I like this regardless of the amount of welding your having to do. I like to see how people repair stuff, I'd love to learn to weld. Look forward to the next update.
