Top work Sir.
Congrats on the MOT! Always a landmark
Would love to hear more video.
I like the way you've done the exhaust centre pipes to silencer boxes.
Cheers
Iain

As originally a MkII Cortina man this one is a wet dream. I just want to lick it. Only thing I want to criticise is the ends of the split pins look a bit untidy !

That bonnet bulge is sooooo subtle - and the proper 60's wing mirrors. No words to express............
What is that colour....putty? Couldn't be more contrasting with what's underneath could it?
Good evening I'm from Essex
In case you couldn't tell
My given name is Dickie, I come from Billericay
And I'm doing very well
Had a love affair with Nina
In the back of my Cortina
A seasoned up hyena could not have been more obscener
She took me to the cleaners
And other misdemeanours
But I got right up between her
Rum and her Ribena............

Cortina colour.
finished an have forgotten about it as I moved to Aus 19 months ago, however I'm restoring a Trans Am for a bloke an he sent me a pic and as soon as I saw its orange engine, I knew what it was and have just looked at all the pics!! Fair play mate, it looks the dogs danglers!! The best bit is the colour, I have a 1967 4dr that I restored inside an out in 7 and a half weeks an grafted a rover v8 into it but like you I done it beige, the best colour, (it flips in different light) then chucked it together roughly an its sat like this since, is yours beige 67?? Thanks for your effort, it gave me inspiration to get mine finished!!

Thanks for the nice comments lads.
Garf, the colour is actually Spa, and it was used on the ford fiestas over here in late 2008.and it does have a slight flip in it .
Good luck finishing yours, it looks a solid clean motor.

Well the original tyres were spinning up when the boost came in so had another set of wheels banded ( one inch out and 1 1/2 inch in) saved up for some Avons and knocked one second off the 0-60
well these worked, 0-60 in 3.96 first try
Got to fit a stronger catch on the glove box lid to stop everything flying out on acceleration

Would this work in a MK1 Escort..?
HI,
Sorry to dig an old thread up but this car is incredible!
I've got a MK1 Escort project that's been sitting dormant for a while, plan was for it to be converted to 4x4 (using a Sierra XR4x4 chassis) and fit a twin turbo Cosworth V6 (BOB). In that time MK1 Escorts have gone up a lot in value so don't want to butcher a good shell as much as I used to, so have XR4x4s so may as well sell the one I have, and Cosworth V6s have become impossible to find. So I'm currently thinking that building the MK1 up to Group 4 spec might be the best option and fitting an engine that kind of fits in it without too much surgery and keeping spare panels etc. for the ones I do cut up should I choose to sell it later, that way it can be returned to an original MK1 all be it in Group 4 spec.
Therefore I'm looking at engine options, there's all the normal ones, YB Cosworths (if I can find one), RWD 2.3 Ecoboost (expensive as they're new in Aus and most people take the V8 option when being a Mustang here so also hard to come by) or 90s Japanese manufacturer (boring) engines etc. but this has really got me interested in the Lotus V8 and searching the net it appears they can be picked up at a comparable price and probably be comparable in cost for a rebuild to achieve the power/reliablity I want.
Few questions though, how does a MK2 Cortina engine bay compare to a MK1 Escort in terms of size? The MK1 Escort is pretty tight!
- There's a few things I could do myself to negate some of the space issues you experienced, those being:
- Design and cast/fabricate new exhaust manifolds to move the turbos to the front of the engine
- Design and cast/fabricate a new inlet manifold to move the inlets to the front of the engine
- May go overboard with this and incorporate an enlarged MK1 Capri style bulge into the bonnet so to cover an Jenvey ITB and custom single plenum set up
- Box out the front section on inner guards to fit barrel type water to air intercoolers
- Radiators for the engine/intercoolers can move to the boot depending on space up front with various air inlet/outlet options, these can't be in the passenger compartment of a car in Aus so it will be a case of picking the best spot to cut holes in an easily replaced panel. Building a Group 4 spec car simplifies this as it creates a firewall between the cabin and boot simply using a couple of sheet metal panels.
The car will be a toy, not a road car or a serious race car, just something to take out through the hills a few of times a year and have fun on the track with in a non-competitive environment every month or so while being different.
Cheers,
Paul
