Default 1989 Escort Sport

Was about time I got my daily project up here!

I bought this car 2 years ago after totalling my e30, the car had been stood for 18 months after the guy got cancer (and due to the medication he wasn't able to drive....luckily since has pulled through)
It was the missuses work mates who had bought it from new and had covered 75K, she told me it was a escort sport (which I didn't even know they existed) went along to have a look and ended up grabbing a bargain.

This was the night I picked her up, literally jump leads, handbrake off and she drive faultlessly for 20 miles to my work!

So in the morning i actually got a good look around and some pics:

Once it had a good clean i was able to work out what the deal would be with the bodywork

Was then time to partially strip it down to see what was what!

This was the first time id done any sort of bodywork ( but set myself the task of trying to do everything)

So here was the end result (which i was quite happy with)

Think I saw this the other day... Stopped and had a quick look as it was very tidy!

Near a certain car sales in Christchurch?

Ah, thought so!

My mate owns the car sales place and I was working there. Popped in and used your garage's bog and saw it.

You've lowered it and got different rims to the pics though now haven't you?

This is where the long winded 10 n a half hour paint resto comes. Me and a good friend of mine spent one sunday on the paintwork to try and bring it back to life

(can you spot the burn mark...was soooooo pissed when i realised what i done)

And here was the end result

After some wet flatting, mopping, polishing, waxing. I was happy

Yes, Steve (or Lurch as I call him)!

If you know of any half decent 3 door shells around the local area, give me a shout. I've just managed to get hold of my first S2 that I sold 12 years ago and it really needs reshelling. There is rot everywhere. Been sat in a farm since I sold it!

Cheers, Sy.

I've got my old album of it in the loft. Going to get it down tommorow.

Ill start a resto thread and post the pics here.

Believe it or not, I bought Steve's RS off him! I sold my first RS as I wanted a Beemer, had it 2 weeks, got bored and persuaded Lurch to sell me his!

Mine needs the roof cutting out really as I literally have a hole the size of a fist through it.

Other than the usual sills, front panel, battery tray and chassis rails I would restore it. Every bodyshop bloke I've spoke to has said 'scrap it'.

Ill pop in and to say 'Hi' next time I'm down there.

Cheers, Sy.

The car was on the road two weeks before FordFair and I did not think it was going to be ready for any stands but luckily it was and the only way i could show it was Concourse

So there she was...completely standard

Got me there and back faultlessly

After a few months, needed some goodies so the next step was the wheels suspension and bushes.

After a little bit of tarting - the end result

Now sits and looks a little bit nicer

Its a 1600 cvh, but carb'd (not the greatest carb either). someone said it was an eco carb and suggested an xr2 carb which was bigger so thats been fitted

It was limited run from 89-90 to use up the last of the xr3i bits i.e interior, boot spoiler etc!!
Since iv fitted 88 spec front Recaro's which matches the rest luckily

By the way thanks for all comments

A little update, Ordered a 4-2-1 manifold for the car a few weeks back.
When it came i thought id pull the the heat shield off the standard manifold just to make sure I wasn't going to come into problems when changing it....and i found this

So the strip began

My boss had a look at the ports on the new manifold and suggested trying to bring them out a bit as they were smaller than the head

Out came the primer as a guide

I know it wont do much but surely can only do more good

finally with everything fitted (timing and fueling readjusted)

Thanks mate

I still have those wheels, they are 13inch RS7's 'Motorsport'...so the stamp says, but they were still a bit small when the car was lowered as i wanted something to fill the arches a lil more.
