xr4i restoration (very long overdue update)
been on with this for 18 months, not even managed to drive it yet. i'm the third owner with only 62,000 miles on the clock. its had a new d/s inner and outer arch and a few little bits of welding. its still wearing all its original panels, sills are rust free as are strut tops.
its got a cossie front bumper a grille and a new set of escort cossie wheels on. the interior is all 3dr cossie stuff, just got to do i few bits then should be on the road http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...rspicks348.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...rspicks354.jpg heres a pic of the engine bay, a little dusty but in very good nic http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...rspicks349.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...rspicks351.jpg cheers matthew |

this is a long overdue update, done quite a bit since this post, the interior is now 99% complete
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...2/xr4i/011.jpg fitted the arch lips again, this time with stikoflex, as they wouldn't stay next to the shell http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...r4i/0082-1.jpg then i painted the rear arches white about 12 months ago, and fitted new koni shocks http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xr4i/007-2.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c230/whitexr2/019.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c230/whitexr2/015.jpg cheers Matthew |
managed to push the old girl out the garage for the first time in 3 years in order to turn it around
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xr2/0032-1.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c230/whitexr2/008.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c230/whitexr2/009.jpg |
now the above pics were taken last year, and just after christmas i sold one of my sierra cosworths, so decided to crack on with refurbing the front running gear.
started with the n/s front strut assembly, looks rusty but only took 30 mins to strip it all out http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0054.jpg good to see there isn't one bit of rust, so just a clean up and paint required http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0063.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xr2/0072-1.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xr2/0182-2.jpg cheers Matthew |
Very nice mate :top: is it back on the road this year?
|
took all the running gear back to my work shop and began stripping, cleaning and painting parts.
i bought new discs, TCA's, poly bushes, track rod ends, rack gaitors and pads, the rest got overhauled heres some pics, http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0037.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...exr2/024-2.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0016.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...exr2/027-3.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0014.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0064.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0048.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xr2/0073-1.jpg just waiting for the new shockers to arrive, then i can start rebuilding the n/s cheers Matthew |

Pleased your going to get it on the road Steve |
ive always wanted a 4i that one looks lovely! do you have plans to lower it? looks odd sitting so high on the esc cos rims! apart from that its a lovely car you have mate
|
its sitting like that as its been jacked up and not driven since put back on its wheels, but i have a set of springs that i'm fitting during the rebuild
cheers Matthew |

|

tonights update, not much done, just got the hub and shocker together, also got my braided lines delivered
anybody know what the copper washers are for? http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0019.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...texr2/0029.jpg cheers Matthew |
lovely car mate love 4is and think it looks very nice on escos wheels top work and keep the pics coming :top:
|
Great looking car, Cosworth front bumper always makes these look better as the standard looks poor
|
impressive, cossie bumpers totaly change the shit 4i ones, glad you didnt go down the gash colour coding route! :top:
4i`s will always have a place in my heart :top: No reason i can think of why copper washers were in the kit...... probebly as kit is used on more than one application |
tidy looking 4i may sound mad to some but i like them better than the cosworth
|
very nice. i love xr4i's, shame there isnt more of them about
|
nice motor you got there mate!
|
When I fitted my braided hoses, I use the copper washers either side of the crossmember where it bolted through, car looks great
|
with regards to the copper washers, the go inbetween the hose & caliper for a perfect seal:king:
