Talking mk1 escort cosworth

this is a car i bought jan 07, without any running gear. thinking a nice pinto on 45,s 5 speed and a lick of paint say 4-5k and a nice little runner, wrong!!!! 1st pic, day i picked up, 3-4-5th ones are up at a1 rally sport over the year as she was getting re-built! 2nd one is first week in body shop after getting sand blasted and etch primed! everything was replaced with exception of the roof and chassis rails!! it,s had new front and rear panels,a posts, complete new floors, 6 link kit, round turrets for coilovers, b-head strengthening plates, wings, rails and strut tops!!!! car then fully seamwelded and undersealed. cage was welded in place and lengthened to reach rear turrets and also cross linked for strength!

hi mate, getting the engine box in is the easy part. it starts to get expensive when you have to uprate everything else to cope with the extra grunt! i thought i had a good shell until i really got underneath her to put the link boxes into her! i,d recommend that you also have this done otherwise you,ll end up twisting your shell apart!! rad and cooler for this conversion is near 700 quid alone, atlas axle with 4-6 link kit and a decent diff to cope with the power, anything over 1500. again it really depends on how mad, or bad you want to go!!! as i thought,,,, 4-5k and a nice mk1, i,ve just passed spending 20k but i,ve had an engine rebuild, hyd clutch conv, new t34 turbo, stg 3 330bhp, coilovers, axle and diff rebuilt along with new bearings and seals on the rear end!! bbarkes,, i,ve used standard cozy 4 pots up front and the 2 pots at the rear! again all with new discs, pads and cables! the shell alone has cost nearly 10k without any running gear so i,d say mate,,,, be prepared for a spending spree!! keep me posted to see how ya get on with it please bud, cheers

s-line is a good mate of mine and i have seen this car being built from the start
the amount of stuff he has bought and the amount of money gone in to her is amazing
the detail and full spec is gob smacking
also the people who are involved in building the shell are top top top motorsport boys (i will leave it up to s-line to mention names)
every square inch on this car is 100% and there is more to come

if anyone is looking to build a car to this level then be ready to spend and take out a remorgage quality aint cheap!!!!!!!!

yes matey, it,s a sportline 174 standard-remapped to 205 with 419lb torque!! damm good for a van!! looks the bollocks now on the 22"s tho a bit more juicy!! lol i,ve lost a fair bit of mid-range pulling power and about 10 miles knocked off top speed, well according to speedo anyway!! flat out behind a m5 on the motorway, sat-nav says 139mph and b-m driver says 141!!!! not bad for a load lugger! hee hee!

hi guys .
nearly finished with my escos ! un planned engine build after a cracked block .
i was just in the starting process of building my mk2 scort with cossie power & xpack .
i have been collecting parts for about a year so have got almost everything , should be attacking the old girl with a grinder soon !! will be crying coz i have owned her for 10 years and been mag featured in classic ford .
i am going to use the rear diff/subframe frome 2wd saph , it seemed more cost effective than an atlas , just gotta lot of cutting with the floor !!! anyone know of this being done before . is it a big no no ? dont mind the work side of it , i own a workshop and can swimg a mig welder about

Thats Ricky Hutchings white Escort and it does run a BMW center section with the arms going into the pickups for the old six link rear it used to run. hes still in two minds as to whats better the 6 link or the BMW rear ..

As for grafting a cossie rear end in there .. hmmm cossied escorts that are 6 linked go round a track quicker that cossies .. seems to be a lot of work for no gain .

listen to retro matey, and more importantly check out his thread on his building race cars and fabracation skills on mk1-2 escorts!!!! this man is nothing short of genius!!! i,m sad to say that i never got his skills on my car as i only found out about him when my shell was completed. although i,m very happy with my shell, as it,s going to be a fast road-track car i think that mine has turned out excellent!! (imoa) lol!!

plenty of folk convert all sorts of stuff useing the rear beam AG for one to great effect. dont follow the croud mate i did the rear beam conversion on a mk2 tina, don't get me wrong and i'm not knocking anyone linked rear is fully adjustable and the preferd method for most escorts as it's easy and fully adjustable. but if you can use a mig and tape you can do this in a weekend, pros and cons no it's not as good but not shite either you just need to be methodical on the setting of the mounts and it will be fine. if it was crap why is it used on most conversions by AG. it's all about money at the end of the day spend less fit the beam if you want more adjustment fit the linked axle kit

hello all, another small update! been speaking to glynn today about the esc-cos! basically, 70% of wiring is complete, engine and box are in and 50% plumbed in. there is a few clearance issue,s regarding the alternator mounts and some top water hoses, other than that nothing major so far! (fingers crossed) so i,ll be holding tight for ford fair! i.ll be calling up to see her mon-tue,s so hopfully have some more pic,s for ya all!
