Default My '88 Sapphire RS Cosworth 2wd (update 23.04.11)

Hello everybody,

Here is some pictures of my new Saph 2wd, imported from J.P Cars in Holland. The car is totally original and has done nearly 58k miles (93k kilometers).

First thing I did when the car got home, paint cleaned and polished.

Name: cos01.jpg
Views: 1146
Size: 146.4 KB

Then fitted some new amber lights in front.

Name: cos02.jpg
Views: 927
Size: 131.9 KB

The result, much better.

Size: 159.7 KB

Size: 188.1 KB

The interior. Anybody seen speakers fitted in the kick panels before?

First plans is to fit a new Mongoose exhaust, the old one is really bad but has done it's job for the last 20 years. Next thing is coilovers and some wicked rims, been thinkin' of Compomotive MO1881 or CXN. Anyone seen CXN's fitted on a saph before?

Hope you all like it, m8's. CheeRS from Norway!

I'm in love with this cossie. It's everything I want in my future car. The thing that amazed me the most, apart from the stunning looks, is the extremly tight gearbox. Man, I have never felt a box as tight and precise as this one. Even our 2005 toy rav4

Very very nice! No I've never seen speakers in the kick panels - I'm surprised there's room for them. I've never seen door cards without speakers either...

Ooh, great! Jack is a very nice guy, I went to Holland in the end of May to take a look at the car and he is very kind to talk and do business with. Man, I miss the look of all his Cosworth's.

By the way, I drove to a guy who was so kind to let me try his CXN wheels on my car. I guess the pics will speak for itself.

ET35 seems to fit ok in back but I guess ET30 would be perfect (these are ET25).

In front, maby ET35 would suit perfect?

I also try-mounted some MO1881's, actually the one's I have thinking of buying just in silver look. Old skool or motorsport? I love them both!

Thanks for all the nice feedback, it makes me really happy Actually after I heard the price for the CXN's I think the MO's are the right choice, I don't think they are worth that much. The MO's looks spot-on, like this one.

Very nice standard white Cossie 2WD. Looks much better with ambers and the same about standard wheels. There are no other rims suiting better than the standard ones. Of course it's your choice but I would left them on the car.

About speakers in front doors, I also don't have them on my early 88' Cossie 2WD (also white - twin brother ). I suppose that at the beginning they were not a standard equipment in some markets. My came from Italy.

It's good to see another beautiful standard white Sapph.

Yep, I know - but fortunately there are different kinds of MO's so I suppose it won't look that average.

@mirkules: Thanks mate! The rims will probably sit on the car until next summer also, maby it will look even better when the car gets lowered a bit

Ordered some parts from Simon (Woodford) on Tuesday; new exhaust, turbo heat shield and K&N panel filter. Looking forward to mount all the new parts. Also got my new genuine amber rear lights from Ford yesterday.

I'm sure it will look great but not as good as with standard rims

Just a small advice. Rear light seals for Sapphire are not the best things Ford ever invented & produced. It's a good idea to seal them (both sides of the seals) with some clear silicone to make it waterproof.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I have ordered some new rear light gaskets also but I think I might figure out a way to seal them more properly from water and grease. Silicone should do the trick though

By the way, I've been thinking about some headlight covers for the car. Any of you got these on your saph? How are they fitted? Some close-up pics would be great.

Well here's a little update. Been having some problems that the engine temp went to high and the fans were on non-stop. After changing water pump, water temp sensor and thermostat we found out that it was a broken/closed radiator that caused the problem. Crazy as I am I ordered a new genuine radiator from Ford that arrived on Thursday - so there was some mouting going on in the garage today.

Fresh and clean

New radiator pipe vs. old and rusty one.

New radiator fitting kit.

Size: 67.9 KB

New fan switch.

Fan brackets sandblastered and painted.

Everything mounted and ready.

Name: radiator_3.jpg
Views: 968
Size: 162.1 KB

Name: radiator_2.jpg
Views: 953
Size: 120.4 KB

Also gave the cooling hoses a good clean.

Name: cooling_hoses.jpg
Views: 860
Size: 73.9 KB

Finished!

Name: radiator_mounted.jpg

Did a testdrive afterwards and it seems like everthing is working like normal, the temperature is stabile between 'O' and 'R' and the fans turns on as they should not always as they did before. I'm happy
