Unhappy Mk5's why couldn't they build them properly

i could really do with some help i'v just started on my mk5 escort project, i knew the sill lip's needed stripin back cos they'd gone rusty, but when i got round to it n took off the old underseal i found the dredded rust had eaten through the floor in the usuall places, at the very front in the corner of the front wheel arch's, on both sides of the floor pan along the sill, n a small hole at either side n halfway along the car

i haven't had much experience with body work but am a competent mechanic, trouble is i can't weld but my mate is a fabricator that hates workin on cars lol, so i said i'd get it all prepp'd for him so he could just come along n weld wot ever was needed straight in, i was just wonderin if n e one could help with lettin us no wot would be needed to get it all prepp'd n ready for him. I'v been lookin on the net for advice for ages n couldn't find n e think usefull, my mate told me to try u guy's cos he used to have a mk4 rs, so n e advice would be gratefull, cheer's

Cut it all out with a grinder mate then put some plates in. That doesn;t look very bad at all. You should get scared when it looks like this.

Haha! cheer's for that mate made me feel beter n was well funny, i'm guessin u repaired that mess u had then.

n i started it today inbetween the rain, cos i knew if n e think it need's to be cut out haven't finnished but gettin a better look at the damage, n as u said it isn't too horible but there's a couple of tricky part's i gotta get round but nothink abit of patience won't sort out, n i'm glad that none of it is structural it's mainly just floor pan, n will it be best to do the holes in one single plate cos i'v a load of 9" square plates that i could use but can't see it bein much for a couple of bigger plates instead. Cheers mate

I had the very same problem, check youve got the protective plastic on your doors behind the door panels,if you havnt thats were the water is getting in,it comes in through the door and drips into the car off the bottom of the pocket on your door

the plastic menbrane is supposed to be changed every 5-7 years otherwise it will perish and that happens just make sure you have all the paint ground back wear your going to weld and all should be good
