After we got home and had time to relax I got a phone call from Colin to say that he had spoke to Alan and they had came up with a plan to squeeze more power of of the engine and asked if I would drop the car off for them to start work on it.
The top speed runs are pretty adicttive so we were desperate to have another go with more power!
After a few weeks I went thru to AVA to see what had been going on.
Started with a new bigger inlet plenum.
Also ported the inlet out and fitted a much larger throttle body.
After that was complete Alan mentioned he had a genuine RS500 cooler that he was donating to the car!
With the front crossmember removed and a smaller one welded on Tom managed to come up with this!
everything was bolted back up and the car saw the rolling road again for a map tweak and a power run

Alan decied to run the car at night to help with the ambient temps.
Thats the very man on the right of the above pic.
The engine made a whopping 486 ATW and is now struggling for grip on the rollers even in 4th!
Only graph I have for this spec is in comparisson with the latest spec so will osted as the thread goes on.

After seeing Alan mapping the car a few times and having to attach his wideband everytime I bought my own.
Its a Innovate LC-1 with the XD-16 gauge and the heatsink bung, Mike R supplied it all at a very good price!

After a while longer at this spec the gearbox started sounding a bit worse for wear so I was on the hunt for something that wouldlast a bit longer and wouldnt cost the earth.
AVA have had good results with Getrag boxes from old V12 Jag XJS's so I got a box and dropped it to get reconned.

After a few weeks the gear box was picked up and fitted to the car with a custom adaptor plate, the gear linkage modifed and prop altered to suit.
The input shaft is the same as the T5 so it fits the clutch no probs.
The ratios are slighty shorter that a T5 1st-3rd, 4th is the 1:1 and 5th is slighty longer.
added a new badge to the back and got a private plate.

Loving this fella, keep it coming!! Its all inspiration for me as I want over 500 brake one day. Awesome car, and like the fact that you haven't just followed trends - some clever thinking has produced results for you.

Wheil the car was in for the box Alan had been speaking to his good friend Vince Osborne who was now at CR turbos and offered a few turbos for us to try.
First one was a little funky!
I can be sure of the compressor or exhaust but think it might have been a touch bigger than a T4.

While the turbo was being swapped Tom and Dave got cracking on another area that had been identified as ripe for improvement.
Can you guess what it is yet?

That rusty piece of metal transormed into a work of art!
gets its air from the inner wing. Cue staffi with a commet on the rust but some of us dont remove arch liners to clean the inner wings!

Ended up back to backing quite a few turbos with my old T4 and after god knows how many power runs and tests and measuremnts we settled on a roller bearing T4 with a few modifications front and back but completely stock RS500 sized wheels and housings.(not the one in this pic)
We were quite sceptical that we could see an improvement at the bottom end(boost threshold), response(lag) and tope end power(airflow) but we manged to get ALL 3 to a varying degrees.
thats a graph over the current spec v's the 486 ATW spec.
The difference is there for all to see

Dont get me wrong Pete I have spent serious cash on the car and at the point in the thread Im not far away from spending even morebut AVA have helped towards the cost of most of the developmet stuff/time on the rollers and always help with fuel, food and van etc when going anywhere with the car.
My mood and motivation changes for the car quite alot and sometimes I think what a waste of money and sometimes I think Its been great fun and you only live once, cant take it with you kind of thing.
Either way its been an experience that any petrol head would love, the feeling of it coming on boost in 3rd gear is immense and something you dont forget!
Not many people can say they have driven at almost 190 mph, infact when I get talking about my car to someone that doesnt know anything about it and I mention that It goes 190 mph you can tell they think your just another bullshitting boyracer its that unbelievable to the normal person.
