Got a hold of a group A airbox lid.

*Passion Ford trivia My old air box lid was the template for the carbon ones Mike sells.*

Engine was built and fitted to the car along with a 4x4 bonnet I got from dangerous Reyland.

Looks ok after the stickers were removed even tho it did and still does have battle scars on it!

I managed to get a small turbo inlet plenum(actually had two at one point but gave the original mapper one as a present).

The car was orginally going to be on AVA's own engine managment but as it didnt support coil packs the hunt was on for another manufacturer.

This where Andy_R puts me in touch with some dodgy guy called RANJ

After a breif discussion he tells me he knows a man called MAD Mark

Quick phone call to Mark and the car was booked in and a few weeks later I was off driving thru the night to maidenhead.

Drove thru the night on no boost as this was still part of my running in I arrived 407 miles later at Marks to drop the car off to have the then brand new SM4 Autronic ECU, new loom, RC1000cc's, and all checked, MOT'd and mapped on the road.

Handed the keys over and after a few cups of tea and some lunch I headed off to the airport to fly back up to sunny Scotland!

Mark had the car over Xmas and new year 2006 and I flew back down with Andy_R to pick the car up.

When we arrived at Marks we went out for a short drive for him to adjust the final few tweeks of the map and for him to tell that the steering coupling was fooked! It took half a turn of the steering wheel before the front wheels started moving!

I can remember the first time I brought the T4 on boost and it just started wheelspinning!

Everything was ok on the laptop and we said our good byes as we had another 400 mile journey infront of us with 400 bhp, a fooked steering coupling and then it started snowing we even got lost trying to find the motorway

Made it home safe and sound although a little dirty!

Worth the trip!

The car was then booked into AVA for the most important day of the project so far!

THE FIRST POWER RUN!

Obviously I was nervous as It had been built by AVA then mapped by Mark, different tuners have different ways of doing things so I was worried that something would go wrong even tho Mark had assured me it was going well during his mapping!

Colin checking things over and getting it set on the rollers.

Car during one of the runs.

The heat sheild on the alternator fell off so we had to cool the alternator during the runs.

Can you guess what it made??

The car made 406 ATW in 4th gear (about 410-420 compred to a run in 3rd.) and ran with no problems whatsoever!

To say I was happy was an understatment

It was the second highest power cossie they had had on the rollers at that point and had become the most powerful 2wd knocking Mike's saf of the top spot

When I said that the car ran without fault I wasnt telling the whole truth!

After the heat sheild fell off the alternator It would have to be repaired before I could drive the car but the problem was I had to be back in Falkirk for a wedding later that day.

We got it on the ramp and were runnning out of time so I decided to leave my new 500 bhp engine'd cossie with none other than Steven Rw while I flew home in his mondeo.

Anyone that knows Stevie proably realises this isnt the best idea but I had no choice so off I went with the promise that Steve, Andy_R and Davie WONT test the performance on the way back to drop the car off back at mine later that day

Off I went to the wedding with the girlfriend only to recive a phone call from a worried Steve a few hours later

He said they hadnt been going fast at the time(Yeah right!) but somehow he had managed to pull the gear lever right out of the gear box and were stuck on the hard shoulder with no gears!

A few frantic phone calls back to AVA to see what they though the problem was and the only solution was to try and ram it into a gear and try to get the car home.( they were about ten miles away from my house and luckily near an off ramp)

Steve managed to find 1st gear then continued to drive all the way home in 1st gear even stoping to smoke the tyres a few times( I found this out WAY later on).

So the car eventually made it safe and sound back to falkirk albeit now stuck in 1st gear and with one broken quick shift.

Cossie ownership is full of lifes little problems!!

The car stayed as it was for some time and I added wee bits and bobs as I went.

This seat wouldnt fit!

Experimented with various heat sheilds and even had a cone filter on it at one point but it was far too loud for me.

few pics of the car fromthat time.

Awesome car, and really like the build up photos and story!

Similar in a way to myself really as I've been promising since my early teens I would buy a 3 door and that it would be over 500bhp. Done the first bit

You any idea how much its cost over the years?

Started getting used to the power so it was back to AVA for another chat and another of the fatal cossie owners questions!

"how do we get more power?"

Alan had a few ideas and after getting the car on the rollers and doing some tests he came up with a few ideas!

This is really where all the development work starts with my car and where Alans knoweldge of turbo charged cars becomes INVALUABLE

Start of the new wave of mods required some fancy welding from Tom at AVA and after the first few sessions with the welder he came up with this!

Can imagine Graceland and some of the other guys getting excited at something with such girth
