Thank you!!
Dear Joel,
first of all, I want to introduce myself as this is my first post in this forum, as you can see.
I'm from Germany and my heart beats for my '91 HONDA Prelude and so, by pure chance, I have read the article mentioned above on spiegel.de online magazine.
At first, after reading the article, I've read the comments to it and thought: Typically the stupid germans (And I AM from germany!), talking bout a car, they have never seen for real, never heard from and now all of them are the specialists par excellance and know, how this and that is working on your car and what parts in the article will definitively won't tell the truth, because they are so unreal, they just can't be real (for example the engine power output). Everyone there screamed out things like "Ha, in NO WAY this car has 1700bhp!" or "I don't believe this car has 1700bhp, until I see a video of it's performance or a dyno result sheet" ... bla bla bla.
Some other (more technical) people said, that your engine must reach at least 13.000revs to put 1700bhp off the crank or that you are using some special fuel to reach such an amount of power output. Again others said, that due to the massive amount of engine power, that probably around 500bhp less would lead into better grip, due to the fact, that your car is only rear wheel driven. And so on ... I promise you, that these people are so stupid, they cannot even differentiate between a steering rod and a drive shaft... In this case, it's just useless to discuss with them about your project, so just don't care about them
And, as I described, I am german and when I first saw the article in da magazine, my first thought (and at this point, it's useless to say that I fitted _perfectly_ into the frame of the "german people picture") was "Hehe LoL, now all hope is lost with the german magazines, they are seriously believin' that this guy can squeeze out around 1700bhp from it's V8 engine and they also have the eggs to also write that down!"
BUT !!
After reading these 31 pages whole in one (for almost one day I did nothing else, than reading every post in this thread! (I'm seriuosly NOT lying!)), I completely changed my mind, regarding the thinking of what you have done and decided that I must also write you some lines.
Please keep in mind, that - for me - FORD is the worst brand you could ever been driven in the early 90's here in germany. Everyone around had one, and everyone had to fix nearly every weekend some serious failures on the car, for the whole period of time they call it their own. And therefore it was regardless of whether it was a Granada, a Sierra or a Fiesta or an XR4i. So these experiences with the brand FORD are the reason why I will NEVER call a FORD my own. But that should not be the point in my post right now, just call it a side note.
But let us focus now on what I really want to say:
Joel, I am not sure, if you are totally aware of what you have done in the past few years!
You have not:
- just only built a car
- just worked so perfectly in every detail a factory never could
- just created a legend and turned yourself into a living one
- just wasted all your time and money and heartblood for your dream to come true
NO!
What you have done is, besides working on the car, answering nearly every post in this thread over the whole time! And this, Joel, is the real goal. Everyone (maybe me included) in here wish you the best and for everyone you always had a "Thank you mate". So everyone in here virtually becomes a part of your project, no one in here had to live without your attention, because you did reply to everyone. This thread has become (in my eyes) a big family and you Joel, are the real father of this.
With your work and your enthusiasm for your dream, you lifted the whole tuning scene to a new level. Everyone, who has read this thread in whole, now has so much new inspiration given by you, to do things on their one cars several times better than ever before.
And not to forget, you stayed always at the ground (even when you fly around in your helicopter ), because you always say, "Hey guys, don't worry, I'm also just a non-professional!".
Your words, I am sure, had reassured some people to give their own dreams a chance.
At this point I remember a wise sentence from you: "Set yourself a goal you can achieve, and go for it for 100%"
At the end, I will thank you for:
- having the heart to let the initial thought about this project bring the "New Granny" to life
- never loosing the focus on what to do next
- always work with the "safety first" in mind (All your work looks just rock-solid!!)
- staying in this forum and replying to nearly every new comment coming up here
- at least, posting new stuff if something was changing on your beatiful one-of-a-kind car
Your project is bright-shining example of what you can do, when you're just able to see with your heart, when you have no fear to give a vision a real shape.
Well done, Joel, well done.
Keep the granny in good shape as long as you can, she really deserves it!
Best regards to you and your friends and to all "mates" in this Forum!
Benjamin
PS: I hopefully didn't spark a fire with saying that I'm from the Honda shoreline!

If you meet me in real life, I´m a guy who´s hard to shut up, always have a comment, or a joke to throw back at you, but reading this post from you.. I actually stumble for the right words - funny feeling :P
First of all, no worries about the your feeling, hehe, or lack of feeling for fords I know what you mean, but sometimes we have to follow feelings and not reasoning, without that philosophy this project would never have been.
And honda is good stuff, I love they´re I4engines!
There are many things in your post to say thank you for, I humbly accept your message, and i baffles me to read it, I´m really happy YOU took the effort, to find this thread, register and write so good words here , hugely appreciated!
From my point of view, having fun with cars, going to shows , race, and you know, communicate over a forum like this with fellow petrol heads, is the real essence of it all to me. Somewhere along the line someone inspired me to go new ways, and if I can be a part of inspiration to others ,i´m really happy about it. And it is something you could use in other areas of life other than your car-hobby!
Keeo your eyes on your target, and never let go of the dream you have and most importantly, dare to do stuff you maybe should not not, in effect dare to think new
I have a freakin´ exam in radio navigation tommorrow and have to get back to studying again, otherwise I would have kept on going, writing even more philosophy here..
Take care ,and thanks again, really really appreciate your kind words!
Joel

Yeah man, once you hit Gatebil, you can't stop. It's stupid that more people don't go. Which is why I can only think of a hand full of people that would have the balls to even fly over, let alone take their own cars

Well....what can I say but thanks again, and thanks for your patience..but everything takes time, and there is always(!) something more to cater for than you expected!
Came back to norway to visit friends, see the car and do some minor tweaks&adjustments, visit the dyno again and try to get going with some track time!
The first time around, just before I left for florida, we did a cam timing that would help out REMOVE torque down in the rev-range, to make it more "drivable" and give the driveline a easier time.
It worked well , except for that the dynmanic compression was a bit to low.So low that the plugs went bad after som idling - it was running to cold.
So when I came to norway I started to open up to prepare for giving it new cam timing setup wich effectively would give it a higher dynamic compression. No real biggie.
But horror met me when I got the engine opened.
The secondary timing chain for the drivers side cylinder bank was snapped!
So the littlle timing job was soon growing bigger... and time was scarce...
After some chekcs it seemed like no inlet cams was damaged and we could put it togeter, even tough my time-budget" was already stretched.
Engine fires up, sounds better than ever, and plugs survive - nice!
After a long road trip meeting up with retro ford at rudskogen, one of the oil coolers seems to be leaking, a lot...!
Space is scarce and i struggle to fine a fitting one, but eventually succeeds! The only problem is that I due to all this crap loose my time-slot in the dyno.Engine has to be checked again after the big re-timing of the cams.
There are some other tweaks neccesary as well, some wheel alignment, stiffer springs at the rear, anti roll bar adjustment, AND driveshaft angle is not perfect giving "some" vibrations when i go off throttle at 150+ km/h
So, I´m sorry to say the car will only be on static display at rudskogen and gatebil this week-end.
Really tried to make it happen but sadly could not get the neccesary details checked out, so i´m somwhat disappointed, but it is to much at stake to just chance and play around with.
Two videos with some noises for you(by a friend from the norwegian ford motorsport club), barely scratching the surface of throttle movement due the missing neccesary dyno re-check up--

Seen it on Facebook earlier. Hard luck with the Cam Chain and the oil cooler.
