This picture gives an idea of how deep the wheel(wells??) actually are.
They start at the vertical bar to the right and outwards...
The rim fitted here is a 10x18 skyline wheel ET10 with 255's on it.
With this fitted there still is about 20cm(at the minimum) of space left innwards, so the biggest problem seems to be to find wide enough tires!! :P

The bottom arms look awesome.

You're most likely right about that! But there is a limit to what with we would chase for for track and street use.. i think 345 or 355's would be a proper size with not far too much weight.
The real reason we made so much room was to prepare the car for a dedicated drag-race configuration of the car where ultimately all engine power could be put down.

I think so too, ET10 looks pretty wierd when not fitted to a car...!

Looks like you got most bases covered then mate, it is good to see so much thought put into a project like this and from what you have done so far I know that a serious amount of thought has gone into it.
For a big old car it used to handle really well but as I am sure a few people are thinking this configuration should be awesome (whichever way you set it up really whether it is for he drag or out on the track).
You get a big thumbs up from me on all of it so far.
Are you going to bring it to the uk this year at all?

Haha, shure did - I'm a survior you know
Well yeah, mostly been doing small bits, wires and boring stuff not of much picture value...
BUT, the lower front suspension arms needed some attention...they simply looked far to UGLY to deserve a final assembly to the car...
So we made a jig on the workshop iron table and got to work..
After a few hours we could start comparing a std. arm to the new ones...
Picture of the final build after all welding will follow... =)
Good night to ya'all =)

I can't say i'm surprised mate this has to be the most extreme road car project that I have ever seen, most people would consider the granada to be a bit of an oversize bloater of a car but you have to admire the skills and the dedication that is going into this car.
I for one can not wait to see the car finnished and hopefully over here showing the jap guys how it is done.

I know what you mean with the ET10 wheels mate, I had a set of ET 15 for a mk2 escort a fair while back and the fact that there was so much metal inside the wheel made it look very strange.

Well yes, doing this project demands alot of planning, dedication , self-controll(!!) and of course some money.
Luckily and old ford is a prettty cheap starting point but.....
Of course, I could have bought a fully prepped skyline , a pretty ok porsche or ferrari for the same money as we build this for...
But, first of all I dont need a fancy car to feel cool(isn't that what lambo's and ferraris really are built for??!! lol) i'd rather go the opposite way , hehe, and lastly , I would not afford to buy a car with the same performance as we aim for with this build.
We have made absolutely no shortcuts in the build of what we would like to think of as one of the ultimate killer sleeper cars around
And we will go fast , both in a straight line and in the curves.
We even did details you cannot see like streching the cars wheelbase to give it more weight/arm to better put dowm power. Wheelbase is now up from 2768 to 2798 if i remember correctly. A small change, but with alot of impact in real life.
Car is stiffer than ever before and the whole chassis is upgraded to year 2000+ tech , but of course we need some time experimenting with spring rates, ride height, wheel angles , damper adjustments, tyre pressure and anti roll blades to find a recipe that works right.
As the Granada, not beeing the ultimate modded ford in the ford scene, we are genuinely happy about all the fantastic feedback you are giving us - really , so thanks alot
Bringing it to the UK this year - yes we want to , definately, but as we still are not out rolling with the car noting can be promised yet.
But do not fear, we will make some pretty bold statements towards the jap guys , not meaning i dont like jap cars, I like ALL good modded cars, but the jap guys seem to have the edge at the moment, we'll try to change that a little bit - and perhaps even with a margin - in car no one would excpect just that from
Will do a bit more major update here soon, so hang in...eeerrrmmm...here!!

Glenny boy: Clever?? erhm....i really don't know how clever it is to build a race/street car out of a granada and at this level, but thanks anyway
Oh yeah....you constantly enconter new challenges in theese kind of builds..
It was supposed to be an easy task, to modify the front hubs from 5x112 to 5x114.3
So I take out all the studs, machine a ring to center a rear break disc to align the for drill of the new bolt circle and weld the original holes for the studs.
For those of you unfamiliar to the granada, the brake disc sits on the rear side of the hub not the front as on most other cars - hence the 5 holes closer to the centre , wich are the ones bolting the disc to the hub.
Original hub to the right, modded one to the left :
I buy the best drill money can buy and som lubricant to further ease up the job..
BUT, and I was not aware of this..., bcoz when you weld in cast-iron as the hubs are, you create a mix of materials that goes super hard , harder than 12.9 steel i am now made aware of...
So the drill job was suddenly a big challange and the whole idea of doing this was scrapped.
I then aquire 2 "new" hubs and look at the idea of offset drilling the orginial holes, but eventually this as well is not a solution I can live with , from a pure technical point of view.
Instead we are now in the process of making two brand new hubs ourselves, we have made som many other special one-off's for the car so why not two brand new hubs as well...
A litte glimse of the front suspension as good as complete, and is destined to work miles better than the previous(modded original) solution. It looks reeeeally good as well, and we don't complain about that either :P
Some more snacks..
After a few layers of clear paint(??) and this part will look totally right , and will be the only outside visual part of the car that gives some hint of what is actually hiding within - an original ford RS rear wing made up in pure carbon fibre..
Stay tuned

You got that right, they just look wierd! But then again, of you show'en to the porsche guys they are used to offset's like that...

the top mount's are the same both up and down, a pretty std. way of dong it. The coil overs are "bushed" with uniballs.
With the new lower arm, we moved the fixing point quite a bit further down to increase ability for more suspesion travel as i felt, for b road use, the old setup was to nervous with not enough travel. But it was excellent for track use.
I will replace the coil overs for longer ones but will not do this untill we get to set the car down on its wheels and get a better feel about what spring rates we should order with the new dampers. I do not know the excact weight og the front or rear of the car yet you know...

Another day and late evening, with lots of work and some stuff fittted
The freshly fabricated hubs turned out okay :
And for those of you worried about the intercooler was gonna be too dominant.. :

To just run the disc's you really dont need new hubs as the difference betweeen 5x112 & 114.3 is minimal, you can just make the holes one size larger and they'll fit nicely I guess.
I really can't say what it would cost to make a set.... about 2-3000NOK maybe.
Cheers

Thanks Stevie
We just had to make them :P
We have been busy again, but bit by bit is turning more and more into a car , and we dont have a constant flow of neccesary fabrications...
Who could believe that this was the underside of a 1982 granada...
Engine fitted, and this time it is supposed to be there permament for a while.. :P
Bonnet test fitted, so now we know clearences and can tig the wastegates into positon , and the top lid of the inlet manifold.
have a nice saturday night everybody , party hard!!
