Default Pulsar GTiR - Engine fubar, 08/07/2008

Right, Mini resto and general tidy up... and probably a few gearbox changes

Bought this piece of shit in September off my mate at a fairly good price, Wanted it for a fast road and track car.

Been using it as a daily drive and I seem to have found all its weak points and ironed out a few issues

This was how I bought it back then.....

Took it to Castle Combe for Rally Day and gave it a fairly hard time, all seemed ok, so was pleased with it

Went to drive it to Blackpool a few weeks after and BOOM.... Problem number one!

turns out the waterpump just let go.....

I saw this and pulled over, As soon as I stopped it went skyhigh Car was FUCKED!

I got recovered to Blackpool to meet up with fellow PF'ers and forgot about my car as I didnt want it to ruin the 6 hour journey I just had....

Had a banging night, Got cunted, passed out then woke up next morning thinking "how the fuck we getting home!" LOL

Managed to use my mates recovery to get my car home and they gave me a hire car, So got in, had it on the limiter all the way back and got home safely....

spoke to Christain and got myself a new gasket for the turbo/head and turbo/manifold, then went to Nissan to buy me a new water pump...

So me and my mate Joe get to work on doing the gaskets and water pump, But nothing is ever easy in my life so out come the dremel to take off this nut as it wouldnt move

We get it off and get the pump on then bleed system...

I bleed it to how the manual says, But no joy... My guess is that when the waterpump went, it took the Headgasket with it

After driving about town, I kept getting horrid signs.... high temps and this!

One fucked radiator

So I fit a new radiator and head off out for a test drive....

Temp seems fine, Checked new rad, no leaks so im happy! I get to a set of traffic lights and "boof"...

Boost pipe weld just cracked! can you believe it

Get recovered home, and ring my mate, he said he can get it welded in work for free, so I whip it off and get it to him asap. Get pipe back next day as good as new (but better! )

So pipes now back, Ive been for another drive and the temps are still going over half way, So I get it back onto the drive and get it bled again.

By this time, i have another problem!

Drivers door is jammed shut, Cant open it at all

So Im sat in my drive, Waiting for the car to get to temp while im bleeding it and as m sat in the passenger door, I think to myself that i'll have a go of opening the door.. so I lean over and press the window switch to put it down, Get out and hear a noise I dont want to...

My window just popped!

I find out later, that why the door was jammed shut, was a bent rod, and as the window went down, it hit this rod and caused it to shatter

Nissan wanted £250 for the glass, I told them bollocks and rang a mate in the trade who done it for £50, Wrong tint but hey, I got glass

I later find out that it was my headgasket and took it to TOTD just up the road , and had it sorted.

Cars been fine until then, Had it rolling roaded and it made 274bhp - 236lbft @ 1 bar

apart from now, Its got a noisy top end

started to heatwrap the boost pipes as the kit to mount the cooler to the front had cheap and tacky chrome, which I despise!

Been driving lovely, Until the other day when I was booked onto a trackday... The night before, It got stuck on reverse

To be continued!

Nice story, but slightly factually incorrect, no?

Didn't I supply you with the Water Pump too??

I've also supplied you with a fair few "I told you so's" along the way!! LOL. Respect for sticking at it beyond a time where most would have taken a can of petrol and a match to it. No wonder it was cheap!!

Nice looking car though. Stick at it.

my mate bought a pulsar about 3 years ago for 4k it was on the main page of gtir oc.com or something , the black and gold one. he had it 3 weeks and blew it, out of 3 years of ownership it has been on road for 3 months and thats not even stretching it. i used to like these cars but they are worse than

Ford.

EDIT.

Got a spare manifold when I picked up my new gearbox, Got given it free of the guy who breaks pulsars

Want it to port to a Nissan S15 gasket, as they got bigger ports as standard, So when I get time i'll dig out my dremel and have a play

Car currently looks like this though

These are two little cunts to get to too After finally getting the speedo drive out, they wasn't that bad... But I've taken the inlet plenum and throttle bodies off to clean up, which made this easier when taking the gearbox out

Back up at base so cant work on the car at the moment. No rush to get it running again at the moment either as I dont want to rush putting the box back in as I've never done one before!

Its been disposed of, Danny's sorted it for me. I havent the time nor money that I wanted to spend on it at the mo, and with me leaving the RAF soon I had no where to store it, Which if I had I wouldnt have got rid, and I needed a car that I could track this year as I was fed up going to track days and just watching.... gets boring after a while

Plans for this are :

T34 .48
Evo 560cc injectors
Z32 MAF
PowerFC ECU remapped by Christian
Coilovers
fully stripped with welded in cage at some point
brakes

Got a spare box now, and changing them aint that bad tbh
