Default MADRod - The re-build

The rebuild has started

The New Block that failed on the Dyno has now been scrapped it was a late Block made in Turkey & we have been informed they are not as strong as earlier ones.
A complete 4x4 engine of known mileage & which has not run High Power has been purchased & the Block & Head will be used for the re-build.
It has become evident that Mountune & not Perfect Bore are more experienced with the YB block so we have learned the hard way not to change things if it has proved OK in the past. The 4x4 head will also include mods suggested by Mountune to aid cooling a problem that caused the failure.
Although the Pistons were un-damaged Mark is changing the Spec again & the pistons will be replaced & with the 4x4 head will mean a higher CR.
The cam specs are unchanged but will be replaced because the engine will now run solid lifters.
Everything else will remain as it was on the Dyno.

The always conservative Mark has allowed me to say that the new targets are over 800bhp & 660ft-lb on race & over 700bhp & close to 600ft-lb on pump.

Must say that what we saw on the Dyno before the failure has brought a new buzz around MAD with Mark sometimes grinning from ear to ear & muttering ‘Monsterous.’ must admit it has also re-kindled my enthusiasm & we will see a 1000bhp road Cossie before the years end im sure.

The old re-build ended in a failure, thats part of trying new things so decided a fresh start was needed.

Over 2 months since the last up-date.

The Block is completed with Mountune liners + a few more/new mods so fingers crossed its strong enough. The head has also been re-fettled & now runs solid lifters. The new Pistons are complete although they had not arrived in the UK when I left for my Hols.
Have taken the opportunity to create a new loom although it still has to plug into the existing accessories loom so does not use MAD's normal connectors.

The Dyno session proved that the CR for my car was not optimum & so Mark decided to change the CR during the rebuild so expect more Power next time .

No !
even if the car was ready, theirs not really much point, we are now on for 215+ & thats seriously fast so runs will be selective & theirs no publicity running at a Daddy thrash, need a Cover car feature to make it worth while, pity but its expensive & dangerous pushing the record further.

Will be their as a MAD employee helping Dave try to set a new Escort Topspeed record if possible . May bring a young local lad along with a 500+ Cossie we modded recently, he will top 180 no doubts & scare the regulars to death, if I can get him entry.

Nothing much has happened since October, my mother died early November & my priority has been sorting her affairs, probate & getting the house ready to sell.
Its 2008 so will try to get started again have been re-furbing lots of parts that have stood for 2 years .
The engine is due for build in Febuary so maybe on Dyno shortly afterwards.
Went to my machinist today to collect my new crank pulley, required because im changing to the latest v-belt system & my crank has a double 'D' end.
Nothing else to report as nowt else has happened. .

We had the stock front pully keep shaking itself loose no matter what we did after we put the heavier flywheel on it,
This caused the keyway to be damaged which was fixed with a Porshe keyway but we decided to play extra safe and have to sides machined in to the crank.
We also had the rotating assembly dynamiclly balanced by vibration free also to remove any renasonce that could have caused it also.

Just a few pics to prove that some progress is being made

A picture of refurbed Rad & Intercooler & the bonnet now has two internal cut-outs to clear my breather system & extended heat shielding for Turbo/exhaust

Bought myself a polishing kit & these bits now look as new.

SM4 Loom with plug in CDI & Coils & the new control panel.
