time to change engines in my ZS, small story about my ZS

when i bought it 3 years ago

i cant fault my 1.6se at all, its taken alot of abuse over the years and is now 300miles off 80k and a little noisy with a oil pressure issue caused by it havin 2 new sets of big ends fitted in the last 2.5 years, ford say u cant fit STD big ends and that the SE lump cant have a crank grind and thicker bearing fitted so rather than buy a new £800 bottem end i risked spendin £45 on oil and bearings and fittin them myself, first set knock piston 2 and 4 out within 15k which aint bad so i did it again and that was 20k ago and they aint knocked out since but i cant have the oil breather attached cos it makes a odd noise!

it threw 1st and 2nd the week before ford fair 2005 smashin the selector out the casing at 5mph! well annoying and a interestin drive home in the wet with gearbox oil all over the rear tires lol but again the new box was cheap and i slowly fitted it over 4 nights (i no thats ages but im not a spanner spinner lol, jus like to have a go myself)

anyways to the mods, it came with a full magnex system and piper induction kit when i bought it which sounded lovely and made it so much more drivable, i drove a friends standard 1 and thought "if they r like this standard id never have bought 1"

well the car now has a miltek 4-2-1 manifold with de cat (pops, bangs and shoots 1ft flames now haha), 200 cell cat in the garage for mot time, gaz custom spec coilovers built for peewees euro look mk5 (40-80mm instead of 20-60mm with higher rate springs) which have transformed the car, got polybushes to fit and all 3 strut bars

Oz super ts bought for £150, needed a spray but they were needed cos the flexi on the manifold was diggin the road up! you cant have coilovers without sittin the car as low as possible!

refurbed the rims as the silver paint was goin yellowy green and peeling off and i was showin at modified nationals, went white jus to make them stand out, i want them gloss black wiv a red lip but they need dipping back to metal first

white suits the car tho, got the skirts on too

So back to the engine, i was pickin up a 2.5 mondeo with plans of tuning to around 250bhp and alot a fab work but havin the first (as far as i no of) V6 mk5 fiesta made but the cars gone and its gonna cost the same to buy a 2litre zetec with alot less hassle plus i want the power surge of a turbo n not the smooth torquy v6 feel now so maybe a v6 wil happen at another date when i feel the need for leather and luxury lol but at the mo i want rought trackday fun

i gotta say its early days as im only jus starting to collect the parts but im aimin for around 250bhp so its a very usable car although i might 2 stage boost it jus for those silly moments lol

any tips or good places for parts and info welcome, i read both pf and ff every month so no the main names in the business but its u guys who have done it that are so useful

as for bodywork, i got a smooth boot to paint and fit, also got the turismo arches to go on so i can trim the ametal arches back and lower it another inch so it sits as low as it did on the 15s

it werent some1 at ford only tho, i was workin for a jap engine parts company at the time and all manufactures of big ends said the same, ive also been told that if u boil a head on 1 u cant skim and refit it without major leakin problems and thats from a mechanic whos done it with a 1.25! anyways it worked out for the best cos its runnin fine and was only a sump off job rather than bottom end out so im not moaning

cheers for the comments guys, gonna b a slow build but its comin off road after trax

next time ur about or i am take it out for a spin, they r awsome although starting to loose their settings so need to adjust it a bit cos the fronts liftin a bit but once the polys r on n new rods n lower arms im gonna find somewhere to balance it all up and set it up properly

stil lookin for engine at the mo but collecting alot of info and got intercooler, turbo and 330mm brakes waitin at a mates for me when i get the cash to have them off him, cooler is a GRS fiesta 1 so gonna b fun fitting it to my bumper but should look naughty stickin out the bumper and grille lol and the turbos a t34 i think, il have to ask, brakes r 330mm with saph cossie calipers which il get a bracket made for but im thinkin of buyin the hi spec 285mm 4 pot kit for 15s n track use!

run the car 0-60 at donny south and was gutted to find out my car standard does it in 10.2 n i could only get a 10.9! does need a clutch and wheel bearing tho and i slimmer driver lol! i wanna run 0-60 again as it didnt feel right and i wanna do a quater mile before i rip the 1.6 out! reckon i can half that wiv the new engine, 5.5s a good target and i wanna take 5 seconds off the quater time when i get it

gettin engine next month and cant wait to get busy on it! the more i read bout zetec turbos the more im like a little kid haha

bit of a update which now gives me the chance to get the car off the road n ready as i am using it everyday at the mo waitin for either the clutch to go or the tax to run out lol

ive bought a pug 306 for £100! needs some work for MOT but cant moan for £100, can take the fezza off road n do those jobs that take a bit longer than a weekend to do n stil get to work lol

secondly i have been given a second ib5 gearbox in swap for some old capri bits i had hangin around so gonna clean it up n send it to CTS for the strengthening work

jus gotta buy a engine now lol! any1 crashed a mondeo or focus recently haha

update time yay, wel the 306 went to the scrap yard cos i cant b seen in a 5door french mobil lol so lookin again now for a second car but thats not the best bit

found my new engine, guy i worked wiv fitted it into his mk5 escort cab cossie rep and fitted new piston rings, bearings, seals, gaskets and the best bit brand new set of lifters, anyways his top hose blew causin a minor fracture in the head gasket and a week later he spun it bendin the rear beam so its off the road awaiting its new engine and runnin gear from a subaru impreza so i have bought the eninge, gearbox, loom and ecu for £400 of which the gearbox wil b up for sale as soon as i collect it as im planning on making a MTX45 fit under my chassis rail lol

altho as we speak im about to go fit some new brake pads, only cheap nasty standard 1s as the car is stil on the road but only for a couple more months then it wil be reaseving some 4 or 6 pots on the front which wil b nice lol

gotta do the rear wheel bearings soon too and have my 1.6 engine sorted out as i have now found a company selling +1 big end bearings finally so i wil b gettin it ground and rebuilt to sell on to a friend of mine

more updates soon and il get some progres pics on this escort cab scooby too for you guys
