I did it Matt,i used one of them Scotchbrite wheels on a drill fitting,you can get them in B&Q then went aver it with a polishing wheel using Autosol metal polish,i used the scotch wheel to get off the dull brown coating on the pipe.Hope this helps.

Just a small update on the dash,basically got the rough shaping of the fibre glass done next stage is to apply the filler and lots of rubbing down
Will get some more up soon when the filler is on

I got the wheel of a mate who had it for a while,could try a metal workers,or maybe a boot sale ,on them stalls that sell all the tools etc

I always wanted to redo my S2 dash, I was going to use that stiff styrofoam stuff though as its easier to work with. Can't wait to see the results.
