Default S2 Rebuild in Essex (mini update 09.08.08)

OK, i've been putting off starting a Resto' thread on here for a couple of reasons, one of which is i've got the attention span of a Goldfish, therefore idleness/boredom sets in pretty quick (you have been warned!)

The thought of constantly taking/editing pics & reguarly updating the thread sounds great in theory, but time will tell I guess ( not exactly selling this thread am I)

Also the fact that my chosen moneypit is yet another S2 (another Essex based one at that................... so that's 0/10 for originality )

Anyway we'll give it a whirl............................................

Always, always wanted an S2 , being old enough to have legally driven one when they were still available new from Ford, the fact that me' ol' man had a chipped S2 around 92, and lets be honest, they had street cred back then and arguably even more so nowdays.
So after getting my kicks on 2 wheels for more years than I care to remeber (and after the missus' made me promise to give bikes up after a kind ol' lady decided to remodel my Blade ) I picked up what seemed a good genuine G plater off a fella off here.

Dont look to shabby I know, and loved running around in it for a couple of months, the plan was to chip it and use it as a cheap weekend toy to fill the void left by my lack of kneedown & mono' wheel thrills. (man I miss my bikes )

Cheers

So, to continue........... (see hows this for dedication to the thread update already)

Having spent a bit of time on here clocking some of the seriously pukka S2' threads ( incl reading every page of Twins & TT threads in a single sitting, looong ol' night ) Got planning a few improvements for the ol' girl, so done the usual & whacked on a 90 spec spoiler & bumper to kick off.......

Then splashed out on a bit of underbonnet bling, some Samcos, Pro Alloy FMIC, Pace Ally rad & a Magnex to replace the standard pea shooter

All the while ignoring the growing rust spots around rear arches/sunroof/front panel etc etc etc

So come winter, looked into getting the tired paint & dreaded rot sorted, but after getting the kit off and stripping interior out I found the usual tinworm ( couldn't bring myself to take pics )
After getting a few quotes in the Ł2500 mark to sort it properly, decided to put it on ice till I could get the dough together.

To cut a long story short ( about f*%kin' time I know)

Came across a recently restored RS shell for a lot less than Ł2500, which came with a nice few goodies incl, New Adj Spax all round, new rear disc set up, green pop out rear quaters etc.

A few pics of it in progress, looks like it was in a bit of a mess to start

Well once I brought it the shell looked like this

And after getting it tucked up in my oh-so spacious garage
I stripped out the few ropy bits & bobs left on the shell (loom/rack/g/box cradle etc) & removed all the suspension for p/coating so I could re-paint the engine bay, and give the underneath a couple of coats of white Hammy'

You will need adapter brackets to fit them calipers.

How did you sort your metering unit out.Did you get a new one or just paint the old one????

Cheers mate, was pretty simple really, just worked rear - front through the middle, and then pulled each side taught

Arches that came with the shell had been trimmed, badly
So got to get my kit painted

Small update, re-con box brought from"David" on here, just needed a little paint etc
