Why not to buy something incredibly cheap... dead escort
all i can say about this car is
picked it up from Harvez on thursday night, car was running like shit, which to be fair i was kinda expecting, he was good about it... and his supra was nice if a little small inside msl:
managed to get 7 miles before the engine cut out and the battery jump out the tray and tried to weld itself to the bonnet melting some wiring... then 4 hours later i was on a recovery truck destined for home... home @ 3.30am
next day (friday), removed the cat smashed the remains of it out replaced the burnt wiring, tested for continuity car was running, still pretty crappy but it was running, new HT leads! nice, but the spark plugs were all mismatched and gapped wrong, so a set of ngk tripple platignums later car was running a bit better. called it a day after taking it out for a spin, lots of odd noises from the engine bay, thankfully not the engine itself, but there seemed to be a lot of bits bodged or unfinished.
so next day i got up and went out for a spin... car ran out of electricity on the way to my garage, arse
so its lunchtime, i called in some backup, so me and my mechanic mate wayne went through the wiring loom and traced after several hours the source of the problem.
the alt wasn't charging as the charging circuit was earthing out in the wing, which was inaccessible. so i rigged a bypass up and fitted a different alternator, but had to swap the pulleys over as i gave my spare alternator to badboy club silly me, so nicked one off my turbo engine. after several hours, got the alternator charging, so i decided to move on to the massive rattle, and it flt like the starter was enguaging whilst driving. the solenoid wasn't attached no bolts, it was mearly held on by the plunger got it running, washed it in the dark, all was well, or so i thought.
then this morning on the way to FITP i ran out of electricity again arse, made it within 40 miles of the show, checked for dead alt, discovered the altwiring which was too long as it was from a mondeo had managed to move round next to the exhaust manifold and wedge itself onto the spring that hold the mani to the down pipe arse, when i disconnected it, it snapped, doubkle arse. got the RAC out, was looking like i was going to arrive at 9.30 fair enough. got it re-wired up the guy was confident the alt would be ok, was pronounced dead at about 8.30, sent my mate in his focus on to FITP he had no back seats so me and the missus had to go back in a recovery truck, when we got back at about 12.30 / 1.00 seemed too late to go back ontot the show in the KA, so we went to damons in lincoln for a meal.
will get some pics of it now it sits on my MO's and is clean, once i've sorted the next batch of problems as i think the gearbox is fooked or in the least the clutch
