Sapph turbo Tech to YB oh i love it now
Having had me saff quite a while now, the turbo technics was 1 of 36 made and only around 6 - 10 left in country.
I went as far as i could go wit the engine, running 10.5:1 compression, 1 bar boost on a T25 making 211bhp and 249ft lb, did hit 220 when temps were good.
I then decided no more projects and decided to strip the sapph, sold engine and turbo, running gear, brakes, just left with a shell.
However like everything the bug bites, Missed sieera ownership and if i did another wanted more power wanted, i looked at loads of options but YB was the only option really.
Didnt want silly power or to spend silly money so opted for a sensible figure
Few pics of how the car was and then a few pics of the changes
I sourced a freshly built engine, which came with a T34, L6 and all anicallaries, the turbo was only 2 years old but i got my friend at Turbo Dynamics to check it out, bad new was it needed to be rebuilt, at cost price manged to get a full rebuild, we also found out it had a GT32 compressor wheel.
Got the engine on the stand and stripped stuff off cleaned and refitted, exhaust manifold got changed to a 2wd instead of 4x4, turbo had the angles redone, rocker cover powdercoated
Sierra looked like this
Looked at what i needed to change
Petrol Tank
Fuel Lines
Fuel Pump
Rear Axle, inc driveshafts, Diff e.t.c
Prop
Box
While i was at it changed Brake master cylinder and ABS block
Then there was the issue of sorting wiring as my sierra is a J plate and had built in alarm / imobliser, and a twinky also has its charging circuit and fan circuit all built into the loom.
After sorting this out, i looked at the shonky old loom i had and phoned a friend
Thanks Ryan
While i was at it i got Ryan to supply a coilpack loom.
Then i was lucky enough to buy a P8 of Cos47 (Lee), who i know from the RS Dorset Group, i bought the P8 with collins board and blue injectors, thinking it will be quite nice to go coil pack running a P* with the Blues.
I realised then i would need to replace my 3 bar, and someone on here was after a set of blues and a chip, this got removed and sold to him and a quick phone call to Stu suggested that i go closed loop and he will enable wasted spark in the ECU as P8 have it, so i saved my self the £150 and with the money from the injectors and collins board went for a MSD Closed Chip and a set of Siemens Blacks.
At the same time a good friend had decided he wants more power out of his focus cossie he is building and sold me a .55 Housing for the T34.
So moving on a bit the last couple of weeks been building the lot up, also managed to get hold of some Focus RS Calipers, and disks.
I also replaced my comp Mos with something i always wanted.
Its not finished yet but here it is so far
Before i sorted them
AFTER
I manged to get the engine started for the first time few days ago, i was really pleased, as i wasnt sure what to expect really, but it started, it was rattly to start but seems to be getting better, the head has been dry for a 18 Months

Left to do is box fluids, diff fluids, full breake system fill and bleed, connect a few pipes and stuff, fefit dash and interior, mount the relays.
I also bought a little present for it today at a very very good price
It came with the speed sensor so at least i dont need to buy a speedo cable and i wont need to source a speedo drive.
Trouble is it was easier to set this up with bells and rotors as the pick up can use one of the bolts, however my disks were standard RS brembos.
Big thankyou to loader who did a deal on his rotors + cash and an exchange for my brembos
Front hub
Disks
Fitted

Back in 80s, and early 90s turbo technics did load of conversions, they decided after doing all the 2.8 and 2.9s they would do the 2.0 twinky, the made 36 of them and then decided foook this too expensive to do and no one will pay £3K on top of a normal ghia to have them done, so scrapped it.
I picked up the conversion a fair few years ago, used normal 10.5:1 compression, a different exhaust manifold, a T25 turbo, and a 5th injector set up, it produced about 170bhp as opposed to 125bhp out the factory, but play with the turbo, intercooler, boost levels and update the 5th injector, on a good engine saw 211-220bhp, which was a lot more fun
Time passed on, more power wanted, Fitted YB hopefully when finished banging on the door of 380bhp

I also got a couple of spare bits once i sort them out you can have, spare actuators, and stuff
You have a good engine and kit there, i spent a lot of time getting that to how it stands, i also have a little cut out in a mag you can have, with a picture of your engine

Small Update
Picked up a spare engine was going to put into track car, but spoke to Ratty who had a quick squirt tonight, and he reckons its a bit of an animal, on track on Thurs, so this will be a spare for the sapph to have a play with
The bottom end was rebuilt 21,000 miles ago in 2000, i also got the paperwork for what was done
4 New Pistons
New Top Main Bearings
New Bottom Bearings
New Big end Bearings
Bolts
Oil Pump
All Seals
New oil supply pipe
New Modine
Core Plugs
All new studs inlet and exhaust and a £1.5K repceipt
The head is standard and has a couple of new tappets, the head is off at present, any recommendations what should be done before i put it back together, is it worth a polish and port if im just going for 380-400.
Full cometic set coming for it
Few pics
Also manged to reattch the front bumper and the bonnet to the sapph which makes it a little more complete and light at the end of the tunnel.
I still need to sort out removing the diff plug which is rounded, and draining the box and refilling.
Engine wise need to sort out the dip stick from ford as it dont fit, and is loose, i also need to sort out my return to sump and have a general tidy up in the bay, then the strut brace needs fitting.
On the back bootlid and bumper need sorting and then just to go over the brakes and all the bolts as a double check.
As you see the breather is now fitted by the cam cover
The inside needs the rest of the STACK dash fitting, i have being sorting out the idiot lights which you would think would be straight forward, but once thats done, its rest of dash back in and maiden outing.
Need to get it to Stu or M.A.D just make sure all is good, its on coilpack and closed loop
