Car is back on the Road.
Both front driveshafts are new - and after 250 km yesterday problemless. Last year the rubbers broke every 100 km ....
so this is solved.
Then there new brake lines at the rear (Goodridge)
And some problems with the power steering are done.
All Fluids except Gearbox and rear diff are new.
Some stickers (red RS badges) are added.

I had some problems with cooking coolant.... so broken turbo or blown head gasket are the possibilities....
Head Gasket was it.... cylinder 4 was a bit wet....
Just ordered a cometic metal multi layer and some bits like new timing belt, thermostat and so on....
cover removed
Head removed 1 minute ago
between clinder 3+4 the gasket was blown a bit, it got water from a water line in the block...
the head is straight, as we measured.

are you (and turbo guido ) planing to go to the meeting at the ring in april '07 or wouldn't it be ready until then? Would love to see the cars in real life.
Ow I hate the summer - all the cossy feelings come up again

Hey
yes we think to show up, if mines running again then and if GUIDOS recent project is ready - but I think it will be!!!
Tonight the head will come in place again, but the problem is, the old head gasket doesn't look melted.
So there is another possibilty: broken injector...
Gonna see it the problem is gone with the new Gasket, hopefully...
and for my interior: everyone fell in love with it, but its just an alcantara done dash, door panels, a pillars and roof nothing wild

new headgasket's in, ARP Stuts & Nuts, some hoses changed and some other small bits cleared
Next thing on list is big wing sump and breather kit, and new power steering lines.
No more water usage since 180 km!! Finally, everything worked out well.
bit smokey pic, as the oil smoked on the manifold - not all was cleaned well .... :- /
buts its running there in this pic, and thats the most important thing !!

Thanks Franco,
There will be a small update soon.
New software, more boost (from 1,3 to 1,5 bar) and some small goodies like the big wing with cosworth oil pump and so on finally installed

Today I was a bit busy, even its Sunday
I got extreme angry yesterday, as I fitted a Bosch Motorsport Fuel Pump on Friday evening, with taking out the fu**ed up fuel tank and so on... so yesterday evening when cruising around it smelled like Fuel and i heard a shhhhhhh, a fuel pipe was blown... The new one from Pump to Filter...
so I made 2 hours of work today to find a solution for the future, I "cut" out a piece of metal in my boot floor, after I totally disconnected the tank and put it away from under the car.... :
There are floor mats on the tank, as it was already lying under the car again, and i painted the coats of the cutted corners:
Looserpiece:
Tank back in position:
Fuel filter with line:
And here are the bad buys:
-without any word-
I don't know what was on the pre-owners mind or who ever did that, but see:
I had to recut the winding for the screws fitment, worked out good, and put new stainless screws in, if I have to get these out again someday...
The end of the story: I ll need a carbon plate to put it above the tank, but this will follow next week and I ll give you guys a small update then...
Next things on the list:
- Fitting Big winged sump (R&B) change all sealings we can do then and a put in a new front diff (stock spec)
- new software and raise boost from 1,3 bar to 1,7 bar

Some news:
1.)
First the tank and fuel thing:
I installed a Bosch Motorsport 023 pump and cut some metal out of my trunk, so that I can maintain everything much easier now:
Have a look:
###########################
2.)
I decided to go for 803 dark greens, Motorsport Developments Software and a new actuator (-31)...
I ordered everything direct from STU on Tuesday morning, after having a nice talk on the phone, where I explained my "lean" situation with the yellow injectors (lambda 0,90) even with 023 Bosch Motorsport pump installed...
Here's what I got:
It looked nice, but my bad thoughts got true... The shaft from the actuator was too short... So I got the old one out and cut the shaft, put a winding piece over ( it was no metric winding, so I had to cut new winding on....) and then put 2 welding points, that these parts are connected for the next 20 years
Changed the ECU Chip, nothing worth to say....
Put greens in, no problem at all, but when I wanted to fit the fuel rail again, I found out that the pre owner of the car was not very familiar with the aeroquip ALLOY fittings.... He used all his power to tighten a fitting, it borke at 7 spots, and when I wanted to refit it, was wasn't possible:
That was yesterday evening, I couldn't do the thing ready. This morning I got out of the bed quite early because I had a 150 km journey before me, to get the new fitting.... But no problem at 11 am I was back at the car and fitted it, but the rail back in place and could fire "her" up...
No leaks, no problems, very smooth idle....
Then boost setting... we connected a good boost gauge to the turbo compressor housing to get the produced boost.
The oem boost gauge is totally crap.... 1,3 bar on it, are around 1,6 for real bars.... and that was my "old" boost setting with a software mapped for real 1,3 (now I know why the car was sooo lean.... another pre owner issue... )
STU's instruction sheet said I have to set a 4 mm gap between wastegate pin and actuator shaft hole, I started with 3 mm, it was around 1,5 - 1,6 bar (1,3 on the dash gauge...) then a 3,5 mm gap, and it peaked at 1,7 - 1,75 bar.
Thats enough in my eyes, I m running standard comp with ARP Studs and Cometic 3 layer gasket.
The car feels not much faster than with yellow injectors, but the exhaust gas temp was with the yellows around 970 - 1000° C in 4th and 5th gear in the higher rpm regions 6500 - 7000 ...
Now it is in 4th 850 - 860 °C and in 5th around 900°C.
Thats much healthier in my eyes!!!
JOB done!!! And tomorrow I ll go to the ring again.
Thanks STU for your instructions on the phone, and thanks for the good parts and the fast delivery

hope so Nath!!!
I ll be on dyno aon 18.05.2007.
But my problem in 5th gear isn't sorted till now.
at around 6500 rpm it feels like the complete engine "stops" for a part of a second, after that it takes throttle again till the same revline.... first I hought it was the DV26si, but it isn't ....
So I don't know what it else could be, as this problem just occurs in the last gear.
I also installed bleed valve for boost setting this weekend.
Was on the ring today and killed some nice cars
but my sense is still after the 5th gear problem, I want to drive faster than 250 km/h.
Any ideas?

So Guys, some Updates, hope the driveshaft issue is sorted now:
As I wrote in my driveshaft problem thread, I ordered new engine mounts, from VibraTechnics, the competition version:
Old mount on the passengers side (left hand steering wheel), looked okay, and I think its okay...
mount taken out, also took out the mounting arm for the engine, so that all screws could come out and inpected:
New mount installed:
drivers side:
OLD MOUNTS:
the drivers side one is a 2 part mount.... :
Hope these Problems are really past now.... if not, my camber is Front Left: -2°19' and Front Right:-2°09' with stock control arms. Then the shaft would be too short. gonna see, as I m on Dyno tomorrow, and will be on the Nürburgring again on Sunday.
here are pic's from the wednesdays work:

was on Dyno today.... poor graph:
just 296 HP.... and 396 NM.... omg...
might it be that there is an ignition cut with MSD's software at 250 km/h?

That graph looks to me like the boost falls off after peak torque. Maybe not enough load on the rollers...

so new Defis are in.
I adjusted Boost now, as it was just 1,3 bar holding pressure.
Now its 1,5 bar holding pressure, but the problem in 5th gear is still there. I don't know what else to do. I checked tank breather system, everything is fine....

ther was no grip in fourth, with 4wd and 300bhp, surely some things not right there,
our skyline was run in third and has just over 500 bhp and gripped perfectly,
also, a peak figure of 1.75 bar is very hight for the power out put isnt it?
beautiful car though

hehe ok but the 60 mm wouldn't have fit in that way as the 4 x 52 mm do now

boost just goes to 1.75 bar and fall directly off to 1.5 holding pressure. and yes 300 hp are low numbers for that boost, and till now I don't know whats going on, I think if he has measured in 4th, everything would look better.
for example: the car pulls in 11 seconds from 100 - 200 km/h...
We measured Lambda yesterday:
all gears during acceleration 0,75 which leans out to 0,80 at 7000 rpm.
5th gear starts with 0,75 when revving and then falls to 0,77 and at 6500 rpm it falls to 13 !!!!
it looks to me like there is a fuel cut, but how can this come so dramatic?
was there perhaps a fuel cut at 250 km/h in the german p8 ecu?

@ VIC: This made a specialist, preowner paid: dash + doorcards + a pillars + roof interior - I think it was around 2500 euros, depends on how many stiches you want.....
At first I was on dyno again, to see what was wrong with the last dyno and missing boost... on last dyno i had overboost 1,5 bar and holding 1,3 bar - software from Stu is for 1,8 ob and 1,5 holding pressure.
I readjusted boost after I had installed Defis, I had overboost of 1,7 bar max and holding pressure 1,5 bar. and I think the missing 0,1 bar in overboost is no problem or?
So Dyno:
and data table, where you all can see what the problem is what I mentioned some posts before, its MUCH TOO MUCH Fuel, which blows the spark away....
I also send the plots to Stu, who did the software, I think he will do me a new software soon with a better fuel mapping.
Yesterday, there was big work day:
- big wing sump
- new power steering lines
- new front diff
- kill some small oil leaks
- steam clean steering rack
- drink beer
We drained all fluids and got the front axle cross member out after around 2.5 hours (quite fast for never having done that work I think)
Workbench:
Some minutes later the oil pan was removed also
Got the tacho driver out, and clean everything, looks new or?
Here it is already glued
The oil filter adapter was leaking a bit, I wanted to glue the fittings in, but as with all aeroquip fittings, that the pre owner installed, the windings were dead because of "Iwanttokillthescrew" power when installing.... so i have to order new fittings for that....
never the less, new oil pan in:
new front diff in:
front cross member with steering reinstalled:
New silver lookin parts are nice!!!
I had to put around 6,5 liters oil in, till I could see it on the dip stick
My oil is around 70 - 90 degrees while driving, with the old configuration, did not test the new one, as open oil cooler connections.
Lookin forward to Stu's reply tomorrow, I ll keep you updated!

If you could visit if often, the car will break often
Talked on the Phone with STU and i ll be searching for an air leak now. But what annoyes me a bit, is the 1.5 bar shown on the defi boost gauge....
