Default A16 XRR - 2.1 Zvh project (Update 24/6 more bits fitted!!)

Just started getting my arse in gear with this project

took the ALL the rst bits from my mk1 xr2 about 2 weeks ago

been busy cleaning, rebuilding and painting since then

got rid of the shell last weekend and finally got my mk2 into the garage so work can begin

there will be as many updates as i remember to do , get carried away with the work sometimes and forget to take piccies..

anyway.. the donor

the recipient

thought i may as well do it properly so i purchased new oil and water pumps, sump, and pretty much everything i gould get my grubby mitts on

head off

not bad condition (infact pretty much cleanest one ive seen

cleaned a few bits up

even though its pretty mint, i sent the head away to be ported and polished, got myself a new cam and all new valve gear

no pics of this as ive been lazy and its still sat in bits

Finally got the block finished today

i fookin stink of degreaser

will build it up tomorrow

END OF AN ERA ---- bye bye carb

got most of the bay cleared out today, will drop the block tomorrow along with the rest of the list of jobs i have

A16's lookin very sorry for itself at the moment

should have the engine bay prepped for the paintshop by monday

then i can get on with the good stuff

will keep ya posted

done 10 hours on it today and it feels like nothings done

dropped all running gear out of it including shocks etc - new ones on the way

had a right ballache with the gearbox cradle, all 4 bolts were rounded and seized !!!! :x :x

got rid of battery tray and cleaned up the area

after shitloads of huffing and puffing and even more swearing, the bolts for the gearbox cradle were freed and engine finally dropped..

still a few bolts i cant get out, bumper bolts in the arches are just turning!! :x not sure how to get this one sorted yet :P

and could i get the fooking bottom ball joints out !!!!! theyre still in the hub, i just undid everything else around them , (note to self, must get a scaf bar from somewhere!)

looks like i may be putting a new front panel on the car as the lower valance part has seen better days and if i leave it, its guaranteed to rot through :x may as well do it right first time

got the lights and other stuff out now too, but it got to 8.30 and i fucked it off!!

more tomorrow

Todays update

been a nightmare to get to my garage due to the shifts ive been on and me being a total drunken bastard all of last weekend

Anyhoo,

got stuck in today and dropped the petrol tank (new i shouldnt have filled the fooker up before i put it in there, totally forgot! )

drained 20 litres out of the fooker first to make it a bit lighter, the joy of more rounded bolts commenced for the best part of an hour and i finally managed to get the tank down

set my fuel pump and accumilator piping up for a trial fit, nice piece of samco around the pump in a diy cage until i get one made up, hacked fuel lines, changed fuel tank sender/lid, slapped on a couple of Festo fittings and then had a complete nightmare getting the new tank up...

on my own, on my back with the aid of a trolley jack and a well placed knee, finally got it on

fitted pump and accumilator next and joined pipework

then onto the front...

my nut splitters had arrived from ebay, as i was having a complete nightmare removing the front bumper as the studs were just spinning ,, couple of goes with the splitter and both were off , cracking little tool for these old fords

next was grinder time

chopped crossmember for turbo downpipe clearance, was a bit gutted to tell you the truth about chopping this car but as soon as sparks were flying, i got well into it

then i mounted the fan on the rad so i could guage how much front panel to chop...

lenghty process, move rad... grind, ..... refit rad.....grind.....etc.etc

i think it looks ok and i have managed to not chop a big gap in the front panel, just hope ive done enough now as once its painted theres no way im doing it again

and thats it for today, 8 fookin hours again and not that much done really...

going to borrow a welder tomorrow and patch the crossmember up and a few other jobs....

not long of the paintshop now

wing cleaned of tons of waxoil

block looking spangly

Fair sized update now

Well after cracking my block, i was fooking fuming until my mate phoned me up and told me about a 2.1 zvh turbo going cheap ad it just so happened to belong to a member on here - (thanks loads Chris 8) )

got the box and ap clutch for my mate too

anyway, had a little trip to Yorkshire last Saturday to pick up my bits

got it home but still haven't cleaned it up yet

Got the 2 wheel trailer out on Tuesday morn and got my Xr to a friends bodyshop (about fekkin time, was sick of seeing brown stuff!)

after a bit of investigation, it turns out the front panel is rusty but not rotten, so i decide to repair it, unsure if this was the right solution at the moment but i dont want to go mental on it really!

Also sorted out moving the rad and fan forward plenty.. its pretty much as far as it will go without ruining the front panel by chopping a big hole in it which IMO looks toss :P

Seems to be far enough forward for now

before treatment and chopping bits out

didnt take any piccies during as i was busy as fook

heres after primer

but i managed to trap some water in a corner so had to do a bit more to it today

and the crossmember

Thats about where im upto now...

Got a stg3 T3/4 turbo for the engine too, oh and a set of Ledas :P

, Wilwood 4pots, comp MO's and a bernie box are on my shopping list for the next few weeks

Gonna be fookin SKINT. lol

Please bear in mind that this is the first real project ive done and i did all the prep work myself ready for painting, just hoping i put in the right effort.

roll on the painting...

engine should be in by 2 weeks with all my bits i need

I have a full set of nut splitters. Great little tools

I'm glad you're not going to cut a gap into the front panel. Mine has one and it's the biggest downside to the car

on my old xrt i had another section of front panel overlapping my cut out section
not as nice still but better than a gaping hole as you say ,,, just go cut a section off 1 at a breakers,,,

Well another little update

got the suspension i wanted... full set of Leda adjustables.... fook me, you wouldnt believe the weight and sturdyness of these mothers

compared to std stuff

anyway, finally got the front end sprayed up for the 2nd time :x after the 2nd pot of paint was fooking miles bluer than the previous pot  :x TOSSERS

can just about make out the blueness in this pic

didnt look "too" bad inside the bodyshop, but once wheeled outside the difference was like black and white, so wheeled back in and more paint ordered !!!

here she is painted properly - finally

and then after a fooking nightmare of pushing it into my garage - no engine + BIG hill with garage on top of + pissing down rain = 2 hours to push it up the hill :x twat

anyway, its home now and the buildup can begin 8)

Thanks for all the support guys

Well heres todays little update...

finally got a chance to work on it today after being a lazy get for ages..

First job was to fit some new flurescent lights in the garage

Got the old steering rack off today and fitted the new one with the new rod ends

Had a go at fitting the Ledas.... only slight problem was one of the rear struts has a allen key end snapped off in it and one of the front allen key holes is ROUND!!!!!!!! , FOOKING BRILLIANT :x , Bought from a TRADER on here, NOT what you expect at all, especially considering what i gave for em...

Think i'll send them back to LEDA for a refurb anyway

Got my T04e T3/4 turbo from Stu XRTT today, ta mate its HOOOOOOGE

comparison pic

Stu rubbed down driveshafts and gearbox then sprayed box silver

Had a look at the loom..... HMMMM think thats a job for tomorrow.... wish i would have labelled it properly

little shot of the wing i did , chuffed to fuck with the finish

Leda & rack shot

more tomorrow...

Quite a big and succesful update finally

last weekend, we got the dash out after a load of fucking around!!, fed the rst loom through the bulkhead ,

Fitted the renault 5 turbo oil filter (pictured with the zetec one next to it!!)

attempted to route the loom

then i borrowed an engine crane yesterday, and got to work earlish today, got the long axle stands wound right out and managed to push the engine and box underneath, got the crane out and it went in a piece of piss apart from finding the right bolts , deffo gonna bag and label bolts next time i take anything apart!!

just starting

getting there

near enough

ITS IN !!!!!

With the T4 fitted

Looks great, but its just WAY too big ungortunateley, looks like im gonna ahve to get a hybrid t3 made up, stuck the stg 1 t3 back on for now

getting bits fitted..

quite a bit done today and im chuffed as fuck its finally in

celebratory bbq...... who fancies some cremated chicken

cant wait myself for the next update, seems to be getting there now
