Just bought this superb car - just 2 owners & 35,000 miles and a full ford history... would really like to gauage opinion, is this a classic in the waiting? I bought the car for naostalgic reasons & not for profit or gain but im curious, can we see these going up in value...? |
Welcome to pf. Thats a lovely looking car. I cant remember the last time i seen an onion(lol) on the road.
Will you use it much? |
Wow! Looks great. Definitely an investment, value is only going up on these
|
Thank you both - I'm also incredibly fortunate to own a 1966 Lotus Cortina...
Plan is to use the Orion to go to shows with family as the Lotus Cortina is an ex rally car with just two seats... |
They are definitely going up in value, I managed to pick up a 1 owner from new Orion L with 54k on the clock for extremely good money about 1.5/2 years ago and the week after, their value just seemed to have sky rocketed since! Even the base model like mine is shooting up in price which is great! Saying that, mine is now full Ghia spec with electric windows, electric side mirrors, central locking, trip computer even put in an electric sunroof!
Mine is more of a project car though - zetec turbo etc etc and like yourself, definitely didnt buy to sell! Would love to see more pictures of your cars! |
Lovely example you have there, and a Lotus Cortina as well?? Great collection!
Your Orion looks identical to my 2nd car, G72 TSN. Was bog standard and mint but wasn't long till it was lowered on 15" 5 spokes with a big exhaust ha! I think these will slowly creep in value, but not to that of the RS models. Bet that one drives like new! |
Had a couple of those, loved them.. Second one was an efi, with Kent Cam and chip, lowered on S1 alloys, back in early 90's

Gorgeous them.
|
Great example! After red the white ones look good.
All affordable classics are appreciating, things that were £500 smokers 10 years ago are obviously becoming less common sights. Personally I think they have an upper ceiling and prices will plateau in a few years but I'd love a red 90 spec. Thing with these I'd guess is that being less desirable against the escort they tend to have avoided being abused so much and those holy grail low mileage, one owner cars crop up still. That plate must carry some value too. |
I had one in silver about 15 years ago.....bloody thing was rotten then so to see yours is miraculous...
|
Two stunners there

Looks lovely... Good examples of any 80's cars have all gone up in value over the last few years, will only increase in value now...
Looks perfect, I'd still have to lower it slightly  |
That's a lovely Onion you've got there! Many years ago I had a blue "F" reg 1.6 L then a black "G" reg 1.6i Ghia and now I have a burgundy "M" reg 1.6 Zetec Escort saloon, so I'm a big fan!!
But your Lotus Tina is a beauty and is one of my dream cars!!! :top: |
Both of them are stunning! Great cars
|
I miss the original radio and amplifier in mine, looks so retro! Welcome to the Orion club
|
Two really nice cars you have there mate. :)
|
I seen a orion yesterday ha ha ha. The cortina is stunning too.
|
A lovely pair of motors! :DD:
I had an Orion 1.4 Equipe as my first car and loved it to bits! Always fancied another one! |
Loving both cars, very nice.
Always liked Orions |
That's stunning well done for finding that. Had loads of orions back in the 90s and early 00s mark 1 and 2s. I wouldn't be able to stop myself lowering it about 30mm lol. I lowered a white 16i ghia 60mm and went over a massive lump in the road and didn't drive right, put the front end of 2 legs of a 2 poster ramp being lazy just to change the front tyres and it bent in half it was so rotten 😭
|
I rang the garage to go buy this and they informed it was sold ! :(
Give me a shout if you ever want to sell |
My old man had a red 1.6i ghia back in the day was a D reg, cool car mate, can only appreciate in value surely.
|
protect
The first proper car I owned was a white F plate Orion Ghia1.6i.
I thought I was the kiddy back in 93..lol. Later I had 2 K plate Ghia SI 130bhp versions, one silver and one black. CheeRS.Lee. |

I wish I still had my 1.6i ghia in red - great car. Was slammed to the ground too
|
Lovely looking Orion, had my 1989 1.6 L for 12 years and was a great car and agree RED is best! For me this best vintage of Orion, but I am biased.

Sounds great bassboy! You got any pics??

Epic pair of old fords :king:
I'd say the onion (what we used to call them) is already a classic, especially in that condition with low miles. |
