New Topspeed record
The Vmax Topspeed record was broken today when a Koenigsegg One:1 became the first to reach 240mph at Bruntingthorpe. Congrats to all concerned that's breath taking.

Do any of the big power GTR's come to the event ?
I'd have thought some of them should be capable of going faster given the distance it's run over ?
Is it a standard car or modified ?

Bruntingthorpe is tough, you do soon run out of road. A guy I know who is Flemke on piston heads struggled to get much past 200 in a Mac f1 and that was with full factory support, he has since done 220 though.
Yes, a lot of big power skyline go there. David Yu has done 200 I believe

'Gundam' SVM GTR has run 239 & was the fastest until yesterday but this was not set at a Vmax . 229mph was the Vmax record before yesterday. To show just how fast these cars are a LAFerrari, Porsche 918 or a Macca P1 cant reach 210mph down Brunters.

The bigger power cars are now pulling 200+ in 1/2 mile alone or shortly after. And I've no doubt there are cars here capable of going faster than 240, whether they're just not into that sort of thing or perhaps works in progress ( as all cars tend to be ) I dont know.
Not to take away, a UK record is a UK record, it would be nice to see it over a recognised fixed distance like all the other speed events around the world

It is 2 miles long but you need to accelerate and have enough room to stop from 200 and because the organisers need safety and people don't want to cook their brakes you don't get the whole two miles.
People do tend to take the quickest road cars there, drag cars would be a lot quicker to accelerate. People take along the fastest cars they can.

Off topic....Rod, did you say the other night that you wanted a brake fluid reservoir for the Cossie? I have one here in new condition if you want me to post it to Marks.

Even without brakes a huge amount of speed scrubs off naturally from high speeds.
Hell if my car could accelerate as fast as it slows down naturally from high speed I'd be happy !

Is there a list of any other results for the day ?
This recent one from a 1/2 in the US was cool ( I wonder how this would compare to SVM's Qashquai ? )
And other 1/2 mile results.

Would like to see half mile stuff com in the UK, I mean, you'd have plenty of stopping room so you wouldn't need to worry about that, guess you can still have high speed blow outs ad the like but it would be nice to see that sort of thing in UK mags again.

Its 1.77 miles useable. The timing beam is 1.5 miles down the straight. At Vmax they are all normal road cars & there is no winner they state that. You do your best & Fastest is well Fastest. Its about 3 things. Brute Power, Your cars Aero & Your brakes & perhaps the size of your balls. Some reach 200 with 600bhp others take 800bhp its why you cant compare different cars. They battle to be best of breed. I love it & really do wish I could enter as Craig asks me to attend.
Stevie this is not your type of event its a posh guys day out in there road cars not time attack or Totb & its better for that.

If it was a standard car....albeit a supercar that does make the speed even more impressive.

Even at a few of the recent TOTB's standing 1km only, the fastest cars were hitting around 210mph. Really, a full 2 mile runway to use to accelerate and slow down is still huge.
Even without brakes a huge amount of speed scrubs off naturally from high speeds.
Hell if my car could accelerate as fast as it slows down naturally from high speed I'd be happy !

My 205 is getting better but the 2 new diffs were really tight, it felt like the handbrake was on.

Mind you, Johnathan Palmer was driving. Bugger took his hand off the wheel to point to the speedo as it tickled 200 before slamming on the brakes for the sharp r/h at the end.

Fastest I have been at VMAX was 199mph in a c6 RS6 v10.
Even me out of the car it just couldn't crack 200mph. Dont think I will ever go faster for a very long time in a car

Not what I meant. This is not a competitive event Stevie likes events like Totb where you have a winner. At Vmax everyone is a winner. Stevie would not have been accepted at that event & would probably be glad because its £750 entry for new entrants. Topspeed running is now a big thing with 220+mph at Terminal Velocity recently.

As I said Steve would not have got entrance to that event. I don't make the rules he could enter a normal Vmax & pay the £750 entrance fee & run as much as he likes. Im going to enter as soon as Mark declares the car OK to do so. That wont be this year & the potential 212mph will mix it with the LA Ferrari, 918 & P1 if standard but be totally outgunned by the Big boys. Imagine setting a new record & seeing the guy in the other lane disappearing like a rat up a drain would be unreal.
Although Stevie thinks the leading guys at totb would beat these times unless they have circa 1400bhp they simply wont. They are geared for 1000K pull longer gearing to reach 240+ & they will need all of 1400bhp to keep pushing the air back. Remember Martin being quicker to 150mph than mine but being 12secs slower to 200mph as he didn't have the Power to keep pushing back that brickwall.

The silver state classic road race is good, last years winner did an average of 217mph over 90 miles
90 mile in less than 25 mins on a bendy closed highway

I have found that most of the people who really enjoy and exercise these types of cars are from very humble beginnings, I know 3 people who have all paid over £20million for their houses in recent years that came from very basic lives, they seem to make the most of these types of vehicles and more often than not make up the majority of people at these events.
The rich twats stick em in storage.
Ones ability to drive is not directly related to ones wealth but the ability to obtain the vehicle and enjoy the machine is correlated to ones income or wealth...lol
Half the time the twats only need to put it in gear, mash the throttle and keep pulling the up lever or leave it in auto...or get a bloke in a cardigan to drive it....hee hee....know what I mean (only joking though)

Hell, I'm doing hillclimbs in it now !!! You can be damn sure I wont win much there lol ( although have had a few 2nd places in class LOL ....small entry field sometimes though )
And not a hope in hell would I be paying £750...even the thing at Edinburgh airport a few years ago was a serious push at £300...but I accepted it as overall travel costs etc ended up cheaper compared to some events.

It's was Jonathan Palmer's own car IIRC. I was on one of those corporate driving day experiences in an endless stream of fast cars, skid-cars, off-roaders, and Formula Fords. Then JP offered us trips around the block in his Macca with a promise of 200mph if the wind was right.
Just seen that the official video is now on Youtube
