Default Vids from the old days - No.1

Been checking out lots of old vids from 10 years ago. Love these old 0-150mph runs . No Nitrous so circa 640bhp. 0-150mph -13.2secs not bad for that Power, when it hooks up.

If I remember correctly the fastest Lemans entered TVR managed a tad over 190mph. The mechanics came to have a look when 200+mph was announced from an ancient old Ford. I did point out we were racing for 30secs & they had 24 hours to complete. Great days !!!! wish it was still like that on here but its not.

Great video watched it loads of times! Still a big achievement even 10 years on and very impressive times to 0-150 for a rwd genuine road car.

Yes !!! Id forgotten that.
That's right should have had lots more grip & you destroyed them in a short time the tread came off in big lumps as they gave up the ghost its all coming back . Wow I would never have remembered that. Think I have a picture of the ruined tyre somewhere in my collection but no idea where.

Only 15" on the rear. We were told these drag radials would knock a lot off the 1/4 mile time. Don't think 650bhp & 15" tyres go & they were simply ripped apart . The 11.5 @ 138mph recorded during those 0-150 runs was on road tyres with 210mph gearing. Also 0-60 4.1, 0-100 in 7.1.

A 4.1 0-60 in a mega power RWD road going car is very impressive.

Back then !!!! compare with what .
The Topspeed set that day (201.8mph) has never been beaten by another Cosworth except this one. I have a vid running 187mph in 3/4 mile with 900bhp back in 2006. This was the fastest the car got & we reached the limit of what could be run for 30secs @ 100% WOT. You will have to wait 6 months to see if the latest engine allows more than 900bhp to be run the full length of Brunters. Its easier in a 8sec drag car than in a 35sec 0-215mph run in a road car.

Brunters is very hard on tyres, I think it is the rough concrete and expansion gaps that overheads the treads, my 911 had ribbons of tread hanging off as soon as we started sliding it around.

No problem .
It shows a new generation coming along that don't know of whats gone on back then. Maybe this new generation will start to push boundaries again some day, I hope so. The last couple of years has seen several Icons from back then no longer involved with Cosworths. MikeR (first Sierra past 180mph) Martin Hadland (first Escort past 200mph) Dave Moss (3rd all time Escort 194.2mph) next year will see me calling it a day.

Of the 15 Cosworths ever officially timed over 180mph only mine & Ade Youngs Sapphire (185.5mph) exist as they did back then. Its Sad.

It is quite sad that there aint more top speed attempts with cosies, but with cossie prices the way they are its a difficult market to get into these days I find, you can get a nice evo5/6 for £6k, that will only get you a rough saph these days!
