It prevents the cam belt bouncing.

The size of the turbo in that last vid explains why it comes in brutal and causes massive wheel spin, but defo looks good

am I the only one that think's the first cossie doesn't sound good

Sounds like it's got a screamer pipe? which I hate the sound of

HKS SSQV "BOV" - facking hate them too!

What is it actually revving too? sorry if I missed it in the thread.

I've known a cossie with hydraulic lifters to rev to 8500 and occasionally the lifters would pump up, so i'd definately say solid's are the way to go over 7800ish

Not if it's set up properly

Decent rear beam (set up properly) decent tyres, knowing to feather the throttle SHOULD it start to spin the tyres makes pretty good acceleration in my experience

So what it needed for big revs on a yb?
Std internals balenced or steel rods or what?
Can l6/l8 be tweeked for high rpm or do you have to go aftermarket?

Steel crank, h section rods, custom pistons, solid lifters, decent valve springs (isky), cams, head work, the list goes on and on....

I disagree ade. Standard crank it absolutely awesome. 9200rpm and 710bhp 2.0 we have out there on standard crank, all beit lightweight, knife edged and polished

You're both nuts, standard rods and crank, 700+ brake and 9000 prm? I wouldn't want to be running standard rods above 8 grand or above 550 brake....

Hah...

Std. rods are very strong, I believe that most H-rods are weaker.

I'm building my own with new original internals (bottom end).
And hoping for +800hp.
I hope it comes alive in summer.

Wo wo, who said standard rods? NOT me, standard crank only. We have just done gaz's engine 635bhp on std polish beam rods and would not take it past 7750. That's all they're good for IMHO.

Correct most thats why choosing the right make is the key and having a custom spec that is know and tested is the best way to use one.

This chap (Jasu) seems to think you can take a standard bottom end to to 9200rpm and 710bhp. What rods have you used on the above engine?

Mine's on a standard crank, nothing wrong with it, would'nt dream of continually revving it over 8500 though. Agree the standard rods are reaching their limit at 7500 rpm

You mean that the rods do not last high revs or do you mean that "bad rod ratio"?

Rods I wouldn't take to that power Jesu So I agree with ade.

But my comment was the crank only which is awesome.

Jesu. Your rods will break before that power. And the standard 1.66 rod ratio is pretty poor. We run them in the 1.7s or 8s dependant on what cc engine.

I'd advice auto Verdi or arrow rods if your looking or them sort of figures.

Out of interest and this is just aimed at sparking a debate and hearing tuners views

the 550-650bhp usually quoted as the limit for the rods, where does this come from?

Have tuners tested to destruction, I know its hard finding on different specs with reliability over a certain amount of miles.

or is it a threshold just over rs500 btcc power that is just assume to be near the limit.

Has anyone ever gone to 700 on standard rods reliably?

Original rods holds over 500hp with orig. bolts and I know that those bolts are weakest link. You can take +700 with orig. rods + proper bolts. However, they do not last forever. Nothing does.
