they are certainly that, especially with a genuine 230+bhp

received my throttle shaft seals courtesy of rtoc club shop today, must say what a quick turnaround good work

missed my bloody delivery from cgb though so gotta get the mrs go n pick it up this morning before she goes to work as i start before 7am when the sorting office opens.

turbo was sent back to wilky yesterday for a quick check over etc so should have that back next week and back on for that weekend

picked my parts up yesterday, so now i can fully rebuild the carb and even have the green shaft seals that never seem to get replaced

also as mentioned changing the dizzy and rotor plus a new set of plugs, will be dropping the oil and sticking new oil/fuel filters on there.

turbo arrived at wilkys place yesterday afternoon so fingers crossed we get a quick turnaround so i can get it back on asap.

will just be a matter of fine tuning the fuelling and setting boost at 23-24psi and then it will get it first trip out this year to donington park for the btcc in april followed by its overly long awaited trip back to wgt for a run on there hub dyno to see if we have gained any power

no matey the original r5 turbo and turbo 2 engine uses the alpine head and is fuel injected still 1.4 8v though.

the c1j engined r5gtt is carb fed and uses a pretty terrible head in standard form

well my turbo has just arrived back with me from my mate, so tomorrows job will be to refit it and then its a matter of rebuilding carb, fit new plugs/dizzy/rotor etc and then get fine tuning all ready for btcc at donington in april then the dyno day the weekend after.

I would love to see some v box logs for this sort of 30 - 130 mph stuff so the launch is removed from the equation

would be very interesting as it doesnt half shift when on the move, obviously being only a little 1.4 8v its not going to match up to some of the big boys but they certainly punch well above there weight.

going be interesting to see what difference this billet wheel makes and the fuelling leaned out to 11.6-8 at this dyno day in april.

when it did 230bhp i was at 10.6afr @wot which is way rich as you know

10s will help a lot mate if shes in the 11s for sure

my 450 hp r32 was in the low 10s on a generic chip at 1 bar and made 280 whp it was so rich it was missing lol

after a map to 11.8 afr at 1 bar it made 388 whp just from the fuelling and ignition tune on a power fc ecu

you should see a healthy increase in power

when and where is this dyno day ? if im available maybe I could pop down run my r33 and bring the vbox with me ?

thats some increase just off fuelling and ignition tweaks fella

mine was that rich it was struggling to pull the hub dyno to start the runs

for the boost im running if it makes 240bhp then ill be very happy, as once these engines reach a certain point its hard to get past a certain figure, that little carb is the main restriction.

dyno day is at wgt auto developments middlewich, cheshire. top blokes there and i much prefer to use a hub dyno

Turbo is now back on my car and up n running. i noticed it needs a new rubber o ring for idle jet. Gotta rebuild carb anyway so all will be done hopefully within next 2 weeks.

got to tax it next week now and then theres nothing stopping me for taking her out for a good old boosting

my road tax should arrive today so hopefully when i get home its there, then my good mate justin (ex ep motorsport) at jl automotive has told me to take my car down there so i/we can finish the last few jobs off as it will be much easier than trying do it all on my drive.

whilst sorting though some of my parts im fount genuine renault fuel and oil filters and these will both be fitted when the car is up on the ramps doing oil change etc, i also received my new turbo housing studs as one of mine was damaged in transit so was able only to fit 4/5 of them.

i still have to refit my front and rear strut braces and whilst doing so iv decided to freshen up the front suspension with new top mounts/top hats and top strut bearings as who knows how long they have been on the car and they are going to be taking a bit of stick this year

Glad to hear you found the problem should run really nice now, and should sound nice as well.

Looking forward to seeing those vids.

Check out this. Www.thegentlemansjolly.co.uk
My friend runs it and if all goes to plan I'll be helping next year. If you don't mind can you spread the word please, you should see some of the cars taking part.

It's amazing how a simple fwd hatchback with a bit of power can give you more of a smile on your face than say a lambo it nissan gtr etc

I've said before I had more enjoyment from the old 206 gti 180 I had than the evo I had, I loved my evo but think it's the fact I was worried where to park it and who was around it where as the pug I just got in and put my foot down everywhere with no worries lol. I'm always impressed how these r5s go and how underrated they are
