yeah i think the double cap i/c is fine for 15-16psi iv had no troubles with it on mine.

iv gone for a fmic as its gotta be better at 20psi plus it frees up space to move the air filter to where the i/c used to be got to be a win win

iv just listed the clutch and flywheel on ebay fella, if i ever come to get a l/b flywheel ill get a lighter one that one was 6.2kg i can get one that is 3.6kg iirc

anyway back to the car iv now got it going to automedics in stoke next tues evening, this is the guy who used to be ian nixons partner at europarts so to say he knows his 5s would be an understatement really cant wait get this back and see what it performs like.
im even going to do an induction kit test on my car next month whilst its at the dyno day iv got the gtt ram raid on there now but got a pipercross viper here to try.

right guys bit of an update

285 cam kit is now fitted along with new uprated head gasket set, carb and carb top plus all new silicone hoses i bought, rear strut brace is fitted and had some welding done on front drivers side inner arch. iv also decided to go for a pipercross viper set up running a direct feed through the morette twins i have
hit problems with my new turbo as we cannot get a turbo oil feed connector to fit so hopefully my mates engineer is going make us one up, also my fmic kit was too big so thats now back at home and awaiting a 4x4 cosworth intercooler to arrrive then its just a matter of fit the fmic and turbo set it up at 20psi and were away finally

getting all the gauges wired in at another time as were now pressed for time for the dyno day.

very easy mate, id say easiest way is a full t25 with .49 ex housing, 285 cam full exhaust and uprated downpipe plus uprated air filter. id imagine 16-18psi boost will easily do it obviously fuelling needs be set up

update

intercooler is now on and all piped up had to use a 2wd cossie one as the 4x4 one would of meant having to butcher my front end and i aint prepared to do that.
turbo is on and new oil feed etc fitted and biggest news is its ALIVE just gotta get the boost/fuelling set today at 20psi and i get my car back

cant speak highly enough of justin at automedics hes gone outta his way to help me more than once over the past 2-3weeks

bit of an update was up until 1am sat morn trying sort my carb out, had it in pieces and finally got it to run ok ish. I was sold this carb being told it was rebuilt and jetted for 20psi but none of the 2 have been done, so it was a race against time to get the car ready for the dyno day on sat but we got it ready in a fashion.

anyway i was quite impressed with how the car did considering the fuelling is all over the place it made 178bhp and 177lb/ft torque at 19psi and run was backed out at 5.8k as the carb was emptying the bowl of fuel. this will certainly crack 200bhp at 20psi no probs once the fuelling is sorted

got a few new pics for you (yes i know the twins are on the piss) cant get em sit right at all.

i have a bonnet in the shed fella its just a matter of painting it, car is going in over winter for a full re spray all kit off etc

oh no group a carbs are so 90s really they are not needed, will have standard venturi in place iv gotta spec the carb up but its looking like as follows

120 main
100 1st stage
120 2nd stage
100 air corrector
200 needle

if the above still leans out up the rev range then will drill 2nd stage out to 130 and 140 if required

got lots i need to do to it yet eg more headwork including big valves big brake upgrade as standard just dont cut it anymore and fit new gauges and aem wideband kit

so basically r5's are mechanical DIY tuning just like a dturbo lol but need a wideband and timing light to tune instead of blacksmoke and a 13mm!

Intresting!

Are there any guides to what jets are needed for certain boost on different turbos?

no guides or rule of thumb as such its just trail and error as every engine performs different just a matter of getting your own one bang on

bloody gearbox finally wimped out on me last sunday but never fear iv already got one ready to pick up this sunday for £50 also bought a new clutch pivot bush as mine was looking rather worn after 20 years of use.

should be back on the road soon with the plasma gauges and aem wideband fitted plus most importantly the carb set up spot on 200+bhp here we come
