I can't understand that mindset at all. I mean if he wants to keep it for when they are really rare or if it's just for sentimental reasons, the least he could do is cover it up and treat the rust areas with a bit of primer .

a friends mk2 rs2000, and mk1 xr4x4 infront of it,
both sat for years (floor is gone on the mk2, 4x4 is in relatively good shape)
mk1 3.0 ghia Granada i found on a drive, managed to buy this off the owner and ended up selling it on - really wish i could have kept it but it was too big and i had too many cars (.. still do) but atleast it wasnt bangered, although i did find it on ebay 2 weeks later for alot more than i sold it for, but i made my money too so no loss really.
This car ran after sitting for 21 years, all i did was fit a good battery and it cranked over started right up! ran sweet aswell i would have loved to have kept that engine.

mk2 transit my dad bought with a luton body on it, ended up selling this on
and my mk1 estate that i sold last september, bought it from a garage where it had sat since '92, managed to get this back on the road in just over a year, first time ever painting a car so was pretty pleased with how it turned out. I used this as my daily driver for a year which was pretty cool! (cant be many of us born in the 90's lucky enough to have used a mk1 as a daily, rain or shine)
note the mk1 in the background too, a young lad has just started on restoring this i believe

some not so sucessful stories
Bought this mad 100e a few years ago ( i was about 17 so this was amazing at the time! ) still do plan on doing something with it, but other projects have got in the way and now im at uni for 3 years. Although i have had thoughts of doing this as a bare minimum rat rod Ł1000 start to finish budget build maby as a bit of fun, it oozes potential to be something fun
This is my baby, a mk2 escort harrier me and my dad pulled from a garage when i was 15,
I fell into the vicious trap of "i want to make this car really mint" and of course, it was stripped and never really progressed from this point. Although i am always buying parts for it whenever they come along - i did have some one willing to weld it up for me but that was a year ago and i wasn't in the position to do it (... i was working on the sierra and selling the mk1) but have faith this will get finished on day to a very nice spec (....... like them all right? lol)
ill leave it at that for now theres a few more photos ive found of others

Shane - you remind me of myself back at the end of the 70's. Always unable to resist a good offer and ending up with too many cars and not enough time. The difference these days is that insurance is far more expensive, breakers yards aren't shambolic bargain bins and parts for pre-90's cars can be very expensive.
I'm guessing you get plenty of help from dad and that's wonderful, passing on his passion and knowledge to you. I owned my Mk1 Escort estate for 16 years, selling it for just Ł400 in 1996. No rust, Mexico running gear and wings and it's original 1300XL interior. Just wish I had somewhere to store it back then as it would be worth plenty today.

Ive been fortunate enough to have him pass his rented garage onto me which he had when he was 17 (and luckily the rent hasn't really changed in the last 10 years so its really reasonable cost wise!) so i have been lucky in many aspects. Many people i know will not knock on these peoples doors and just ask if they would consider selling these cars as things do come up, it does help to turn up in something oldskool and generally well looked after (the mk1 escort was brilliant for this haha!)
This was another car my dad bought off a drive for Ł50 (was being used as a shed) and let me have as something to much about with
I ended up selling this and it pretty much paid for the harrier, about 7 years down the line my dad swapped it for a mini pickup and we fitted a 1700 crossflow and a few other goodies too it
here is a mk1 cortina 1500 we pulled from a farm years back too, ended up selling this one on as well unfortunately !

Everyone likes the 100e, its really diffrent, i would love to do a massive V8 etc but means it wont be done for years - which is why the idea of doing it even with a 16 crossflow / 2l pinto and just rat rod bare minimum appeals (patchwork quilted', minimal interior, red oxide paint etc etc)
Ashamed to say the harrier looks like this now, and this photo was taken in 2013... (note the ex grasstrack mk2 escort behind it - also another car that sat on a drive for years)
although in my defense, Ive done alot of "growing up" (going off the rails) and built the mk1 and 'restored' the sierra since then - that "i want to do it properly" curse. although ive got loads of cool really rare shit for it when the time comes so it will be worth it
heres another on the day we pulled it out the garage
(i love that fooking car...)
heres a mk2 ghia that my dad bought from a friend which they bought from unfinished project in a garage
we got it to this standard (theres a better photo deep in my photobucket somehwere but anyways) :
which i was going to use as a first car (insurance etc got in the way) but we sold to a friend who bare metaled it again and is almost done restoring it to this beaut (1700 5 speed tranx diff etc etc) :
also heres another one from the guy who owns the orange mk2 rs2000 above, any guesses :
sorry for littering this thread a bit! theres a fair few more i can share

Actually it's mine...honest. I forgot where I left when out on the piss one night 13 years ago.
PM your address and I'll come and collect it. And I'll give you a 4-pack of Stella for your troubles

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Why was it just left uncovered and unused for 13 years? What are you intending to do with it?
Once the muck is off I reckon the paintwork will polish up again, it looks rust free as well. Got to be a very good investment the money RS 2000s are worth now.
