Yeah i think youre right, but ive only just started learning, not too sure what does what with regards to the tone mapping etc, will have to do a bit reading about it.
i prefer the d40 photo to be honest, i think it has more detail and the colour saturation looks better.

benni for that price youy can get a nikon d50 and then buy another lens to go with it
i bought my (first one ) off ebay for Ł210 and it came with the camera standard lens 4 batterys and a case (well 3 !)
then i bought a lens for more track stuff som i can zoom in more
but you could also buy a d60 for that money ! but depends if you wanna buy brand new or second hand off ebay

Cheers Jim Generally in photos, you cant perfectly expose every part of the photo due to the varying lighting conditions, eg dark shadows, or bright lights. And if you manage to expose these areas correctly, you over or under expose other areas of the photo.
An HDR is a combination of images taken of the same subject but at various exposures, a mixture of over/correctly/under exposed. An HDR uses the various exposures of the same image to pick all the detail out of those shadow/highlight areas, giving a much more detailed image which looks great but doesnt usually look as real as a proper photo.
The last one i posted is made up of 5 different exposures using a program called Photomatix Pro 3.0
Check the link above for a bit more info, and if you look on flickr for HDR you will find lots of amazing ones!

cool, I guess I can try that with the bracketing on mine then or is there anything else that i need to use.
Also probably asked a million times but whats a decent tripod just for the longer shutter speeds at night from bridges etc and possibly a bit of macro. Not really fussed about anything else at the mo (ie panning on a track etc). Obviously there are loads but not sure what I can get away with with the weight of the camera + lens. Not 100% sure how much i would use it so dont want to fork out loads until I am sure I will use one properly
