i have one one of these rare cars hiding away in a shed waiting for me to win the lottery to build it. i have been told from a reliable source it is an original rs500 btcc thunder saloon and does certainly have a totally different floorpan to all these cars very similar to the original post car but i would say heavier engineered. does anyone know how i would trace the history as i cant find any numbers or details anywhere on the car. i cant find the pics i have but will find them and post them up soon.

is it a btcc car converted or a thiunder saloom

i am not honestly sure but i am led to believe it was a btcc car that was converted to a thunder saloon. it has the proper gertac lifted floorpans with the btcc jack points still in, tunneling, the mega front turrets nothing like normal sierras, front world cupp crossmember and the rear end is set up to take a live axle with 5 link kit. i dont know if it ever ran or if it was in fact one of the few completed thunder saloons that ran in the btcc but one thing for sure is that there is no evidence its been smashed. i bought it years ago from down south and would appreciate anyone who can help me find out how to trace, if possible, any history, or indeed was there anywhere else numbers were fitted to the cars. i also am led to believe that if i build it with 75% new parts it will get a modern reg plate eg 60 61 etc. LOVE THESE CARS JUST WISH MINE WAS NEARLY AS COMPLETE AS ANY IN THESE PICTURES

converted to live axle in the rear and heavily modified to suit, same at the front , basically used capri group1 running gear (still got it all plan on biulding a capri later in the year with it) also had the bulkhead modified to take a v8 prior to me having it , was some speak of mike quaiffe/graham hathaway having the car but nothing to back it up other than when i got the shell it came with fglass doors with there names on it,
i totally stripped it and sold the shell on down your way
was on ebay about a year later so may have ended back up here

i does look very similar. pic aint that easy just now as the car is like a set of shelves currently. i have been looking for the pics i took years ago when i got it. i travelled to cannock for it. i would not say butchered to death i would say more engineered to survive forever lol. will keep trying to get some sort of pics up of it asap. good to know there are people interested in possibly providing details. i may be mistaken but the last car in pics was on ebay last year andf went to ireland. the other pics i have seen of it are almost like mine unless mistaken.

could very possibly be teh same car thougj axactly as you describe it. big square notch cut out and welded in on bulkhead for v8. back end etc vetc
had metal doors on when i bought it but obviously had been changed. guy i bought it from was planning on using it for banger racing but decided it woukd be sacriledge. /......... thankfully. i bought it with a spare single x pack body kit and the fitted thunder saloon kit. scary how close it looks to white car though! going top take whatever pics i can and post them ttoday
also has holes on roof for ariels and roof scoop

Yes Cant be deffinet but pretty much 90% sure there was a pretty much all white with little sponsorship but deffinetly remember the red gartrac stickers along the rear of the car and sure it was a 930 Porsche engine in it regular at Oulton and donny in the thundersaloon championship and sure it had a article in CCC mag as i had the poster on my wall as a 14/15 year old !!

Well just done a quick bit of internet searching as remembered a article somewhere on a forum about !!
Looks like as far as i know only the roof skin survives from what ive just found out, Michael Bloomfield got it and always been a regular in north west saloons champoinship but ive not seen it for last few years but had a chat with him at one of last race meetings I seen him at (not a personal friend) about the car as i could remember it in various specs but didnt know it was the gartrac car, it was/is now rear engined and he was telling me only the roof skin is left from original car !!
here is a link to forum its on about thundersaloons in general!!

well sorry to say but its not that car then as , fair game not minted by faaaar, the shell is in one peice and is not actually needing that much restoration before building. it turns out i bought the car in around 2003 and have found two pics from when it was still on my trailer. i have taken a good few more but not sure how to upload them so going to give it a try. its defo gartrac that have done a lot of the work that i am 99.9 percent sure apart from that please feel free to argue over it untill the true history comes out if it ever does but thanks in advance for all and any help i am seriously thinking about starting to move on it over the winter but make no mistakes it i WILL BE RESTORING THIS CAR.
just dont ask when it will be finished as i aint no millionare lol
heelp can anyone either give details of how to upload or an email addy for me to forward these pics

Looks a good basis mate hope you find the history behind it and let us know its story as personally love this type of race car (thunder and mod saloons etc), Whats the plans apart from a resto for it eg engine wise ??
#154
not sure was ideally wanting to take it back to its last know standards but not sure whether i cann afford that or find out that history.
ideally it would be a great big stinking v8 either super or turbo charged and aiming for 600 hp would not be unrealistic as shell WILL take it no problem. front rose jointed lower arms, hubs and shocks etc will go into thousands of pounds to start with from what i am told but still to investigate it all
