Cool Mondeo dipstick not reading accurately

I have a 2006 Mondeo Zetec and I have difficulty in checking the oil level because whenever I take out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert and then withdraw it, it always comes out with oil sticking to it up past the 'Max' level. It seems doubly strange because when I first withdraw the dipstick it doesn't have any oil sticking to it and will usually show an oil level around the 'Min' mark. I assume the dipstick is picking up oil from the inside of the insertion tube but then why doesn't it do this when I first withdraw it?
If anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful

Many thanks
