Honda civic type-r, 2001-2005, help needed!
Hi all, im looking to buy an ep3 shape civic between 2001 and 2005. Im just wondering what changes were made during production years and at what year? are the 2004 models much better then the 2002 models etc?
Thanks in advance,
Dan.

So mainly cosmetic then? does the lightened flywheel benefit the car much? What im trying to get at really is if i bought a 2002/3 type r, would i kick myself about not getting a 2004 type r? Im replacing my fiesta rs1800, and ive heard nothing but good things about the type r and it seems like alot of car for you money! Thanks for the reply.

I would go for the facelift model in cosmic grey myself, face lift looks better, fly wheel makes little or no different if I'm honest, drive one before you buy one, some people don't like that u have to get them up the rev range to get the best out of them,me myself I think there a great car.hope this helps

Just got back from the nurburgring in one of these, bog standard and such a fantastic car, very arse happy and turn in fantastically.
Vtec is a little high on them, 6krpm to 8250rpm is the decent working power band, so you have to really work them hard, it feels strange at first being used to fords that rev to 6500rpm but these take it and love it all day, we did 25 laps which is 325miles of hard use!
The gearbox is amazing too so it's not difficult to keep it singing.
I don't think you will be disappointed

That sounds pretty amazing! i doubt my rs1800 could handle many laps anymore. Yeah the 'power band' being at high revs is literally the only bad point ive heard, the rest is pretty amazing! from what i can see i could pick up a fairly decent one for 3 grand now, and with close to 200bhp that sounds like a good deal!
Im just not sure whether to go for a facelift or not, and whether the lightened flywheels is worth batting an eyelid over...
Thanks for the replys,
Dan.

490 euros in laps for three days
Between two its not bad though really.
Brakes were hating life but we were going a bit steadier on them than normal, we wernt there to set records like.
Tyres were fine too, did a few wet/damp laps too but yeah it alot of wear really!
When you know the place a bit you don't have to use the brakes so much anyway, bang it down a gear or two is normally enough for alot of the corners there

Gearboxes only go if your being a complete animal andy, a guy I know done two in his dc5 (same box) by rushing third badly. They're such a fast change there's no need to smash through the gears.
My mates just had a clutch in at 100kmiles
And we never warped disks all weekend at ring, the juddered but cooled down and were good as gold again! Gen disks and pads though, only way to go before upgrading.
Filter, exhaust and k pro ecu/map and they go good and sound awesome
Just see the red one on Facebook is that yours andy?
