Hello guys and gals, my friend has just dug his dads capri out of the garage, car hasnt run in years but it does now and flew through the mot.
It has a 1600 pinto lump and its a 1982, i am wondering wether it is unleaded ready or wether it would need an additive ?
all help appreciated thanks !

not sure on that one the valve and seat are the problem I beleve and what there made of I did use an in line filter on an old car of mine (cast iron head) which lets you run unleaded with no more mods needed thare about Ł60 still got it I think if you need one Ill let it go cheap thare good for a 100 thou and its done under 10

I know at some point they made them unleaded ready, and that was early 80's just not sure when, i was born 81 so that dont help lol ! Another friend had an 2.8 mk2 granada that was fine on unleaded.

Perfectly fine on unleaded, they were since march 80 in fact.
The problem was the valve seat material not the valve itself, only the exhaust seat needed doing in ones that weren't, being a cast iron head helped anyway.
There was a campaign in other countries about using unleaded which forced ford to ensure the engine could run permanently on unleaded, though the japs were there years ahead as usual.

I took my info from a german magazine that was involved with the casters/finishers of the heads, and although a long time ago remember it was due to a materials supplier change by chance the new ones from a certain number onwards were unleaded safe, this was from either march or april 80, I remember distinctly as my dad just got his new BFG XR3 at the time, and was wondering what engine that had etc etc.

hi
the only pinto that will run on unleaded is the 2.0 efi engine from the sierra and granada
all the capri engine need the valve seat changing or running on an additive.
hope this helps
