Default help please

my dads got a escort td(96) on a p plate,since the weather has turned a bit colder hes having trouble starting it,battery in good condition,power going to glow plugs,glow plugs working these have been tested out of the car,engine spins over,although a little slower than usual,the funny thing is i can start it no problem with easy start and it will run perfect all day until its stood over nite,any help would be great,thanks in advance.

i think thats the type with the old style fuel filter.the diaphragms used to perish inside.they are about 20 quid from most motor factors.either that or the diesel is running back somehow when the engine is switched off.

fuel filter was change when this problem started,do you mean theres a diaphram in the housing?

does it start eventually? as whenever my old escort vans had worn plugs they took thier time starting so could be weak

it will start with easy start and run great after that,i dont like useing the stuff but trying to get this sorted for im,at first we were trying to start it as soon as the glow plug light went out but found out that the power isnt cut to the plugs till after about 10 seconds.like i said the glow plugs have been tested out of the car and are working,just got me a little stumped.

does the plunger on the top of the fuel filter go soft when you are trying to start it??

dad phoned me the day said he took the glow plugs just to double check and lo and behold three of them dont work,must have burnt them out with holding them on. i went and bought a new set hes fitting them tommorrow al let ya know how he gets on al also mention the plunger on the filter housing.

new glow plugs sorted problem out
