89 XR3i wont go anymore than 98 mph!
hi, im recently using an 89 MFI XR3i while my turbo has a rebuild, the thing is the 3i just wont go any faster than 98 mph! no matter how long or 4 or 5 gear it doesnt go anymore than that.!!
The revs are at around 4.500 rpm
I know they go faster as my old d -reg one done 125mph!
The car feels quick through 1st and 2nd and pulls well, the engine is standard and is the quietest 3i engine ive ever heard!. and the clutch is fine, wondering if it has a different box in it or something, or maybe a simple fault somewhere
any help will be good thanks.

i thought about the timming coz when i looked at the dizzy it wasnt positioned on the ford stamp, so ill try that, dont think the engines worn as its only done 68 k, and runs sweet.

get it done tidy take it to the garage for the set up dude.

na no chance of taking an xr3i for a setup, my 5 year old brother could set up a 3i up, oh well looks like i will leave it till my turbos ready!. shouldnt be going over 100mph anyway!

Coz i int paying someone to ckeck the fueling and timing on a 200 quid xr3i, while im spending £1300 on my s2 turbo!.
Ive turned the fueling up and the timing is spot on, still want go anymore than 98 though!
