125 motorbikes

Recently ive had to start using my car to commute to work ( 36 mile round trip ) , so its costing me a fair bit per month in petrol , so looking at getting a 125 to use to keep costs down. Anyone got any advice or that actually use a 125 themselves

Go for a gillera ( spelling)

depends on you budget and what you want to do

cruise and save money a 4 stroke is fine (cb125 cg125 a trailie like an xl/xr)
buzz about every where blowing pistons anything italian (aprilia gilera cagiva)
a bit of both a uk 125 (tzr125 nr125r kmx125 dt125 rd125)

ive had my fair share of all 125's (and am breaking a futura now) and i always loved uk tzr's turn the power valve, rich up the main jet and sort a pipe and away you go and while racing aprilias isnt ideal you wont get pissed over too much and the guy on the italian will get off the other end with a pair of bent wrists and a sore arse

also remember 125's are not cheap
nor is insurance and repair costs (tyres, 2 stroke, top ends, cables, brakes)
if it doesnt live somewhere dry things go wrong faster
you get wet if it rains
people steal them bla bla bla

looked at a yamaha wr125x , cos i'm a bit too tall for the road bike style ones . Its a 4 stroke . It will live in a garage and be kept indoors most of the day when not being used . Insurnace isn't too bad but my 3 points don't help . Do they really take that much maintainance ??

I've got a yzfr125 and the only spending I've done is having a service , fantastic bike and handles really well . I'm 6'1" and it's the perfect height . Highly recommend cheap to run , I would keep mine but if lost my job :( in the year of riding I've saved nearly a £1000 on fuel and tax !!!!!

depends really, taken care of its fine but things get gummed up with soot and crap
exhausts dont last if used in the wet, the usual pistons and rebores, they last longer depending how you ride but still a highly strung 2 stroke will deffo do a top end every 10k and how i rode 5k was good
little bumps and bruises take their toll and tyres cost plenty

sounds like you will keep it dry and happy so it will last longer but carefull of previous bodges and owners, 17 year olds dont maintains things right and its its 5 years old it could have had 5 of them, 10 owners on a 10 year old bike and you never know what you will find

rather that do a cbt every 2 years you could do you rbike test get a reasonable and bullet proof 500cc and you will have longer legs and cheap motoring (depending on bike)
