Fist bike just bought a sv650s what they like?
Hi there,
I passed my test a while ago but have only just bought a bike, i was dead set on a new CBR600f but insurance quotes of £3500 put that one to bed, then an 08 sv650 with 8k but the seller was messing me around. In the end the Jew in me came out and I've (as of tonight with thanks to ebay ) bought a tatty 2000 plate sv650s with 20,000 miles
The plan has changed to, keep it for a year or two for the experience, doesn't matter if i drop it and then get something nice...
TBH, im not too bothered as it was only £930, and the insurance is stupidly cheap (£360), im going to give it a really good service and going over but i wondered what the curvy carb models are like to live with? is there anything i should look out for?
Also what sort of mods would people recommend? If im replacing knackered parts i may as well replace them with better bits..??
Thanks very much

Bikes arent the same as cars in respects to upgrades. Tbh for what you have paid for it i would give it a good service see if anything is broken or worn out and if not just ride it and enjoy it for a year and learn to ride it

They are ok an an easy bike to ride. An old friend had one but i never liked v twin bikes really ever since i had a go on a ducati 748. I like inline 4's but the v twin makes for an easy riding bike. Think they are fairly reliable so shouldnt have much bother.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Get the bike and give it a good clean up, service it and get it checked over. Chain/sprockets, brakes (make sure there not siezed up and plenty of meat on the pads) make sure the tyres are in good nick.
Just enjoy it for a year and get some no claims. You will be surprised what 1 years ncb will do to the quotes. Mine pretty much half'ed. Most quotes i was getting recently were around the 200 pound mark for most of the 600 super sports. Ive just gone for a gsxr750 and the insurance is 290 tpft with 1yncb.
Enjoy it mate and get some pics up.

People are right about a years no claims. My first year was £360 tpft on a 600cc yamaha thundercat. The next year it dropped to 180 fully comp and after 6 years its 115 fully comp

Thats the only duke ive ever ridden so cant and didnt say I dont like them. Thats was the first v twin i ever rode and wasnt keen. Id not long passed my test when i rode that bike so perhaps 6 years later if I were to ride one again i may be of a different opinion

Cracking bikes, easy to learn on and importantly gain confidence with, so so easy to ride, they dont mind abit of hooning either.
Get a can put on, loud bikes save lives n all that
Dependant on how you are using it you can change the sprocket, if your motorway commuting then give yourself a longer top gear, if your dossing about then youll be picking the front up easily going the other way.
I do miss my old SV, got a GSXR 1000 now and still miss the way a Twin rides.
