It has slays been a dream of mine to own a Ducatti, ideally a 916 can people tell me about the good and bad points of Ducatti ownership and what I should be looking at/for?

Do the sensible thing and buy one with the testastretta motor in it.

Erm, I've had four, now on my fifth. (And its Ducati by the way, one T). How much you got to spend, then I shall pontificate.

My current steed is a 998 FE mono, quite a rare beast she is.

only ever had ducati or mv,

my last was a late 996s, and these desmo engines can suffer with rocker issues

as said a full history is a must, unless you good with the spanners

best bikes in the world when right, a nightmare when they go wrong

Great bike, noisey clutch on tick over (dry clutch), set of termi's sound mint, major services are 500 notes, and they can be a money pit if you don't look after them. Nicest bike i've owned, but needs tlc

You could almost buy a 998FE for that. I would absolutely advise a 998s then fella, just for the later engine which is allegedly better and slightly more reliable.

Buy the S as you get better suspension units, and make sure its a single seater as they look better!"!!!!!!!!!!!

The worst thing bout owning a Ducati is the fact that they're so bloody uncomfortable! That's the only reason I sold mine, I loved everything else about it, but just didn't want to ride it due to knowing i'd be aching a few miles down the road.

For the record, the dry clutch noise is cool

Edited to add that the yellow ones are the best

This won't help the discussion in the slightest, but....

I've never been into bikes in the slightest, but I do think there is something about Ducatis. Remember seeing the 916 and 748 when they first appeared years ago, so pretty compared to most bikes. Newer ones are just as nice to look at as well, if not better. Love the soundtrack too, so different to all the Jap stuff, real head turners when you hear them coming.

It's unlikely I'd ever ride a bike, but if I did, it would be a Ducati.

Sorry to the OP for straying off topic, but do you have any more photos of the Indy and its engine bay? I've got a Mac#1 Worx with turbo ZX10R engine, be nice to compare the two.

So, other then the fact they are very uncomfortable, expensive to maintain and parts aren't cheap, what's not to like about 'em!

You bought one yet mate?

To be honest mate, its sat in my garage waiting for when I pass my test. Every time I get back from work I find an excuse to go into the garage just to look at it and sit on it. Would start it up but the neighbours will start to hate me. took it for a cheeky smash round the village and its just awesome!

Hi mate,

Sorry there late, the idea is to get it prepped for the ring this year then i want to strip it all down and get it painted white and orange and tidy it all up as it looks like it was completed in a rush on some bits. Awesome bit of kit though and not much of the duke on performance. Kept up with a 650 SV to about 90.

That looks great, the wheels and the colour really go nicely together

When you begin the tidy up you should start a thread in the 'restorations, rebuilds and projects' section, I'd love to keep an eye on it progressing

Cheers i might do that, i do tend to me mechanically challenged so i'll do the work before i start a thread. Wheels are coming off as there too big and handling isnt as good as it should. We'll see how it all goes at the ring.
