I did my test on a cb500. Awful to ride. I'd sort it then sell and buy sumat decent. I have a GSXR 600 as my first bike. Quick enough for the time being.

Nothing is to fast it's just when you use the power that matters, I didn't want to waste money changing my bike all the time so my first bike was a r1. Now I want sommert quicker.

i dont honestly know anybody who has a litre bike and can use more then 70% of it's potential on the road, well appart from the bullshiter's.
track is different obviously.
cb500's are shit tbh, you wont enjoy riding it so you just wont ride it.
400/600 are the best way of learning a sportsbike way's if that's which way your looking for.
tbh imo you'd probably learn more on a 250 (aprillia rs,rgv) in one summer then a thou in 3 summers.

the best bit about 250's and 400's is maintaining corner speed cos tbh you need too
imo that's THE only way of learning how to ride, if you cant carry speed round the twisties, then it doesnt matter if you've got gixer thou with turbo and nos cos you'll still be unable to go round a corner quickly and look like a fucking tard
it really make's me piss when you see all these mong's on the r1's, zx10 and the like that have the dainese leather's with slider's that havnt got a scratch on them
when we first started riding the rage were the slider's that when you got your knee down there was a massive shower of spark's off them, fucking hell it was fun everywhere we went it was our mission to create spark's lol
we obviously come unstuck every so often but we learned pretty fucking quick what you could get away with( not trailing the front brake through a corner) and how to carry the speed through the corner, you just cant learn that on a thou on the road.

I must have came across wrong cause my point I was trying to say was get a bike you like as the bike I did my test on was horrible to ride. That's all I totally agree with you both. What I didn't say is that was my first road bike I have rode smaller bikes of road since I can remember and I have more fun on my mates r6 on the road than my r1. I'm shit at gettin my point across pluss I carnt spell. Sorry lads
