tiddler problem
ive got myself a little xl100 to tinker with
been barn'd for about 10 years but started fine with a new gulp of fuel but it wont throttle up, just idles and throttle does nothing ive had the carb apart and slider and cable etc all move freely (as they can after that time) just wondering if anybody have come across this before it will rev up and down with the choke but not long before it cuts out due to too much fuel he she is desperate for a seat cover but it was cheap so http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5...o/DSCF9256.jpg its not my fireblade but i bet its just as fun  |
Jesus that looks erm...old?
How much is cheap? |
Have you checked the cable at the twist grip end ? I'm guessing you have so my guess would be that the carb needs stripping & cleaning thoroughly. ticking over is one thing but any one of the jets could be blocked. I'm amazed it even started after 10 years being stood !
Unscrew the slide from the top of the carb to check that twisting the throttle does actually lift it. If yes then it can only be a blocked jet or jets. I stored a DR350 for a mate which wouldn't run if left for more than 6 months without stripping the carb. Looks like it only needs a seat cover & 1 side panel to be sorted. |
make sure you give the brakes a once over before heading off into the sunset on it..
even if they are not siezed up I wouldn't trust 10 yo brake shoes that have been stored in a barn. I would imagine the tyres have seen better days to. 2p |
