Default Tax and Insurance Question

Hi guys
New to the site, and im kind of in need of some advice

I passed my driving test on the 10th, and earlier today i put a deposit down on a blue mk5 fiesta zetec-s..... it has Mot, but no tax... Ideally i want to be driving asap, preferably friday when i pick the car up.

My questions are..

* How fast can you tax a car after insuring it online ?? -can you get certificate things to prove its taxed and insured while your waiting for the tax disc and insurance to be sent to you ?

* Can i insure the car online, then take proof of insurance (eg: a print out from the computer) and all necessary documents to the post office and get tax there and then, like, the same day? ??

My plan is to insure the car tomorrow and hopefully arrange tax too, so its all good and legal for when i go pick it up on friday.....

Is there any fault to that plan ? ...As iv never insured or taxed a car before i dont know what the procedure is

Many Thanks

a printed insurance certificate is fine at the post office. you will also need the MOT and green new keeper slip from the logbook.

can you not ask the previous owner to tax it if you give them money as no doubt they will have an insurance cert and mot etc...

Just start insurance from morning then get v5 and ask seller to run you to nearest post office. Then go back and take car home. Unless picking up tomorrow night then could be a problem unless they tax it for you.

Iv insured the car, as of 12:01 tonight/tomorrow morning, i can legally drive it, when its taxed..

I took Botters advice, and asked if the seller could tax the car, then id pay him back once i went to collect the car
....but he said there was a post office round the corner and he would come with me to tax it

So thats all good,so far. so happy

Hopefully start a 'project thread' tomorrow if all goes well !

Thanks guys !
