Default pay as you go insurance

Anyone know the score with this?

After being quoted stupid prices for any car (Think £400 a month, a lot considering i earn about £370 a month ) someone said that it might be cheaper to just insure the car month by month.

Anyone have any idea's about this?

Thanks

Yep, 17 and just going for cheapo cars. They want £3.5K for pretty much anything (After deposit, nearer £4K) so I was going to just insure it monthly, especially since the cars I can afford only have short MOT's.

Surely you won't be earning no claims by only doing monthly policies so the insurance won't go down next year. For my 1st year I went under my dads name then for 2nd year used Quinn direct in Ireland, they was really good, let me insure my 1.4 escort and want bothered about mods. I had all sorts done to it, when someone hit it they just said keep the car to take the bits off and the other company paid out the price of the car.

2nd year I got a 2wd staph cossie. I paid 1700 at 19 years old. But that was through a company in guernsey, all legally insured but a hell lot cheaper than any English ins company.

Yeah you wont get a ncb but I cant afford the first year, let alone worrying about the second

I'm interested about this Guernsey insurance company, so it's all legal even if I don't ever go to Guernsey? Any more details? Cheers.

Just to add, NCB doesnt concern me too much as at the moment I work 2 part time jobs and other odd jobs that need doing but hopefully I'll be in a better job in a few months so I can start earning a NCB before long.

I think you'd be lucky to get any kind of temporary ins at your age. The fact that your under 18 means you can't enter into a contract. I do sympathise with you though. Some companies let you fit a nanny black box to follow you around and base your insurance on your milage, times driven etc. I don't like the idea personally. I think the only way now is to look for cars in the lowest insurance group and run it for a year or two until ins is something like affordable.

I can't remember the name of the company as a local insurance broker done it for me, all I remember is that it was based in channel islands. But the car comes up with no insurance in the police car computer so I got pulled like 6 times in that year but once I explained it to copper or took documents down the local station they was fine.

The way the ins companies have put up the price in the last couple years is ridiculious. If I had to start again I think I would get a moped for couple years until price come down as you get older

Slight update

Ecar want £368 a month to insure me, my mum and my dad (I've been told the more drivers I put on, the better) on a pay as you go basis on a Ford Ka. I'll try it with smaller engined cars later. However for a year Ecar want £3349 but they want a deposit of over £700 then 11 monthly instalments, so it's nearly £4K.

Yeah I'm dead against the black box simply because I'd feel as if I'm being punished for things I haven't even done yet.

I'll have a look into that see if I cant scrape a few quid off.

Regarding the moped idea, I have considered it but would much rather a car (And so would my mum to be fair)

Not the most interesting topic in the world I admit so thanks everyone for reading and the advice.
