3dr cosworth insurance @ 21

Will be looking to insure my cosworth soon, and need a rough idea on what its going to cost.

Its a standard car except a stainless system and knoi suspension. Garaged at my home adress, cat1 alarm and immobaliser. I cant see myself doing more than 2,000 miles and will only be used during the summer on dry days.

I know it wont be cheap.

No chance!

jim_robson 19-02-2012 09:04 PM

Been quoted 1534 if i pay in one go, 1700 it works out at if i pay monthly, pretty pleased with that.

mjonathan24 19-02-2012 09:06 PM

Do you not have another car for daily purposes? everyone else seems to be able to get classic insurance for a decent price.

jim_robson 19-02-2012 09:16 PM

Yea ive got a 2ltr sierra sapphire i use daily.

End of the day its a group 20 car and im 21, im not complaining with the quote ive had. I exepected it to be more.

mjonathan24 19-02-2012 09:29 PM

I think it's a good quote, however I remember getting a quote of £400 for one when I was 21 (im 26 now) I think you could better your quote if you went to specialist classic car insurers

jim_robson 19-02-2012 10:19 PM

That is with a specialist insurer.

You had that quote 5 years ago, insurance has gone up a hell of a lot in the past 5 years mate.

mjonathan24 19-02-2012 10:25 PM

Thats why I put my current age I know that premiums have risen.... I dont expect you to be able to get a quote like that these days but to be honest I dont think it's quadrupled.... I still think you could get close to 1k. All I am trying to say is shop around.... It took me a whole day to get a decent quote on my xr2, most people wouldnt insure it when I mentioned the spec but it just takes that one company to give you the golden quote. Sometimes thats hard to find.

Psycho Warren 19-02-2012 11:49 PM

Insurance has probably at least doubled if not tripled for younger drivers since then.

Rossy43 20-02-2012 09:54 PM

I dont think you can get classic insurance at 21. Well not all the ones i rang anyway.

I think it is a very good price myself, take it Jim, I reckon you have shopped around, you don't seem like the sort of person who's gonna take the first quote you get. I.E you have a brain.

I work with a kid only 18 months younger than you and he's just started to pay about 1600 quid on a clio 1.4, driving since seventeen and believe me he has spent the last three months getting quotes, started around 2400 quid.

You can

R4N SS 21-02-2012 10:16 AM

No way will u ge classic insurance on a Cossie @ 21 for £500 - im 35 and paying near enough that on my saph

martysmartie 21-02-2012 01:24 PM

Classic insurance you need to be 25 or older usually (Footman James) being one example, they did make a change recently where you can be younger IF you have a low powered classic.

For example they would insure me for a Morris Minor but not for my Cosworth.

I pay £460. 9yrs ncb and hats for my cosworth and frs.... But they state you have to be over 25.

Biggin hill airport?

Harris. 03-03-2012 03:09 PM

I hate to burst bubbles here ,but surely paying over £200 a month for insurance is madness, you then have to run these cars ,they are old now and as we all know there not the cheapest to repair /maintain .Sometimes you have to wait ,as it would be pointless skinting yourself out to have a car sitting in the garage insured that you cant afford to drive .But if you can good luck:top:
Im now 33 with 0 ncb ,as ive had classic policys since i was 21. the 3 door is £198 a year and ive paid that every year since i was 25.
