Car VS Van insurance
Is it cheaper to insure a car or a van?
For example, is a ford escort in car form cheaper to insure than an escort van with the same engine And if you convert a car to a van (e.g an anglia estate to an anglia van by welding plates in place of windows) is it insured as a car or van Thanks :grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin::grin: :respekt: |
you can insure a van as social, domestic and pleasure use vehicle the same as a car. i have my astravan as that for travelling to and from my permanent place of work but not for travelling between jobs during the day.
it was about the same cost as a car. £220 per year fully comp. |
Depends how old you are I think. I'm 19 and I have an escort van (1.8d n/a) and a focus (2.0) and they both cost me 1200 quid to insure. I never use the van for work, just SDP+commuting and my insurance is adjusted as such.
Generally for younger drivers I've found it is much more expensive to insure a van. Also Pass Plus doesn't seem to make any odds when insuring a van. |
it diesnt really matter two much what the vehicle is in regards to say an astra van or astra estate as they are nearly identica in the eyes of an insurance company
the main thing which will affect it is use ie if its gonna be used for business or social demestic and pleasure as the insurances are calculated diffrently plus on commercial you get things like public liability etc but ot say this some insurance companys can get funny about insuring a van but there are just as many who have no issues so should not be any trouble to find a quote at a resonable price depening on what you have done to the vehicle (ie mods etc) and if you were to weld up the window sections of a car it would still be classed as a car to the best of my knowledge |
Thanks

I found it much more expensive to insure a van than a car.
Hardly any companies would touch me (was 22 with an mk3 astra van 1.7td), most wouldn't insure under 25's, evaninsure and cvd (i think it was) were the best but at around 4 times the cost of a similar engined car. |
I stuggled to find anywhere that would insure my van for SDP+commuting. Had to insure it for business use in the end, although it was cheap enough so couldn't complain.
The only problem i'd face is if i get my xr2i on the road before my renewal and want to swap the insurance over |
My renwal on the Escort van is almost £100 more than my xr2i. thats non business use too
