Angry Greenlight Cossie insurance

Well hear is one for everybody.
I am 36 years old and have just submitted a quote for insurance for a 1991 'j' plate sapphire cossie..i did the online quote thing and answered all put the questions etc..this is my driving history:

36 years old..been driving since i was 17..no previous accidents or convictions..non smoker and teetotal...19 yrs NCB...i have had fast fords since i was 19..and i that includes a number of RS models including a cosworth when i was 24yrs old.
DL postcode.
Married with 2 children.
HGV articulated driver by profession + i have my PSV and motorbike licences as well all passed 1st time.
Declared all mods on the car,17"wheels,stage 1 chip, green injectors, koni's,thatcham cat 1 alarm and immobiliser, etc etc.
Only wanted a 2nd car 3000 mile per year policy as i only wanted the car for show purposes but it would be garaged when not in use and i would be the only driver.
I have full NCB(19yrs) on my everyday BMW E90 330i.
They quoted my £497.70 full comp if i used my NCB..when i phoned to confirm the quote and ask them if that quote included my NCB and they said yes it did and told them i wanted it as a second car, hence the low limited mileage and i had no bonus for it as it would be a new policy, they told me they couldn't quote me for it..so i must be doing something wrong because some people on here are getting a brilliant quotes from them..but i dont think i will try them in the near future...thanks GREENLIGHT FOR NOTHING.

Hi stivyxr4i,

I've been part of the Passion ford community for many years now (around 7 years) and i'm here as a point of liaison for members, which most long standing members are aware of and make use of.

On this occasion I’m struggling to understand what we are doing wrong here.

Our website and application does state that we require actual NCB in your own name to be used upon the proposed vehicle.

Within your post you provide considerable personal detail to back your driving history, but your record is not in question. You clearly have a good driving history which is really helpful to us when negotiating terms with our Underwriters.

All quotations are processed upon their merit based upon the information declared to us upon your application. But we wouldn’t automatically assume that you had zero NCB to use upon this vehicle where 19 years NCB had been declared as available to be used simply due to a limited mileage being requested.

Our £497 rate you quote within your post is based upon a modified cosworth model, including like for like modification replacement in event of repairable/replaceable incident, track cover option and a 14 day guaranteed hire car in event of a total loss/theft in addition to the traditional comprehensive cover benefits (windscreen, audio, European cover, courtesy car, £100k legal expenses, driving other cars extension etc) doesn’t seem uncompetitive, which is confirmed by you contacting us to proceed with cover.

The problem arose when you contacted us to proceed and advised us that the 19 years NCB declared as available upon the application wasn’t actually free to be used upon this policy.

If we are covering a sole isolated vehicle our Underwriters would require NCB to be used upon that vehicle.

In some instances, providing the 2nd vehicle is a performance model and there are no non-recoverable claims within the last 3 or 5 years (length of claim free criteria varies dependent upon respective Underwriter) we can mirror NCB to the second vehicle.

Your E90 330 BMW would qualify for the mirror, but we would need to cover both vehicles to do so.

Kind regards

Tony

Hopefully this won't turn into a Greenlight hating thread. Unfortunately Greenlight weren't competitive for me this year, but will try again next year as I had no issues at all for the two years I was with them.

If my BMW would qualify for a mirror for my NCB then why wasn't that mentioned when i phoned up to query the quote????..i might have been in a position to cancel my existing policy and start a fresh one with yourselves as i have only had my BMW policy for a few months..so that you would have had my business for both cars..BMW and Cossie..but all i got was...'sorry we wont be able to quote you for that car'..if i could have talked to somebody in the office first before filling in the online application form to ask a few questions then i would have saved all the hassle..seems a bit stupid that you dont do new quotations over the phone so the customer can explain what he/she requires as most of the time you cannot do that when it is done online as the form only has definative guideline questions.
This is by no means a hate campaign towards yourselves..it was just a post to say that you couldn't do anything for me...but i have recieved a PM from somebody else who WILL be able to sort me out with what i want.

Best regards
Steve.

I would be carefull with footman james, they are good untill you have to claim, my father has a completely standed Morris Minor traverler, never restored with 40,000 miles on the clock, going to a car show it had a small loom fire, anyway contacted footman james they sent an asesser and he said it should be fine.

when we spoke to footman james they said we had to get quotes on the vehicle which is difficult with a non runner so the vehicle was recovered to a specialist in kent, the specialist gave a decent quote and was in contact with the insurance who said all sounds fine so he went ahead with the work, then the underwriter decided it wasnt covered because a wiring loom is not a structerule part of the car and we were left with a bill for £1000 for a job that would have cost £150 in parts and a weekends work.

Some insurers don't see Sierras as 'classic' - and apparently neither to Classic Ford
